    Description

    Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd. (HSPRD) has an opening for a Junior Associate to start in summer or fall 2025 with two to four years of post-law school experience to join the firm’s Complex Litigation group, which has a practice concentrated in the areas of Civil Rights & Constitutional Law, Employment Law, and False Claims Act litigation.

    HSPRD has one of the nation’s leading civil rights, employment, and qui tam practices. Our cases fight discrimination in the workplace, in housing, in education, and at polling places; vindicate our clients’ constitutional rights to speak freely and enjoy liberty, property rights, and equal protection of the laws; battle police and law enforcement misconduct and governmental misconduct generally; protect the rights of low-wage workers and immigrants; and protect whistleblowers and expose fraud against the government. For more information, visit www.hsplegal.com.

    We seek a junior litigation Associate to work on a range of cases on an active litigation docket in state and federal courts throughout Illinois, and around the country. The Associate will be involved in all aspects of litigation from case evaluation, investigation, and initiation, through discovery and motion practice, to trial and appeals. HSPRD routinely handles significant lawsuits that provide associates with substantial opportunities for substantive work as they develop professionally. We also regularly partner with non-profit and advocacy organizations on important impact litigation. In addition, the Associate may assist with the representation of individuals in a range of employment matters, pre-litigation negotiations, in administrative proceedings, and in litigation, and assist other practice groups of HSPRD as needed.

    HSPRD is an equal opportunity employer that strives to promote a diverse and inclusive bar. We value a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. We strongly encourage applications from women, people of color, immigrants, persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ community, people with lived experience of poverty, and people from other underrepresented and historically marginalized groups.

    Qualifications

    Ideal candidates will have:

    • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytic skills;
    • Demonstrated interest and experience in pursuing a career in complex litigation on issues related to constitutional law, discrimination, workers’ rights, immigrants’ rights, government misconduct, and class actions;
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively;
    • Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously;
    • Ability to work independently as well as within a team; and
    • Willingness to work on cases with the firm’s other practice groups.
    • Fluency in Spanish and connections to Chicago are valued, though not required.

    This position is currently open until filled. The anticipated start date for this position is summer or fall 2025. Candidates must have at least two years of post-law school legal experience. 2025 law school gradates are not eligible for consideration. The firm values judicial clerkships, fellowships, and other significant work experience before or after law school related to our practice areas and clients.

    Admission to the Illinois Bar, eligibility to waive-in to the Illinois bar, or willingness to take the Illinois Bar within six months of hire is required. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000, depending on experience, with full benefits, 401k retirement plan, profit sharing, and annual bonus.

    This is an in-office position with significant flexibility as HSRPD continues to operate on a hybrid model with attorneys in the office at least two days per week.

    Reasonable accommodation will be made so that qualified applicants with disabilities may participate in the application process. Please advise in writing of any needs at the time of application.
