    Title: Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO)

    Reports to: President & CEO

    Status: Full-Time

    Location: Remote, with occasional travel to Cleveland, Ohio, and other locations

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Organizational Management

    • Oversee daily operations
    • Evaluate program effectiveness and oversee implementation of improvements
    • Manage relationships with independent contractors, including but not limited to those providing technology, marketing, and accounting services
    • Supervise and support the Associate for Membership and Engagement in member recruitment, dues management, and engagement initiatives such as:
      • CHHSM’s Annual Gathering
      • Participation in the UCC General Synod
      • Affinity groups, online meetings, and events
    • Supervise and support the Associate for Advocacy and Leadership in leadership development programs, including:
      • Nollau Leadership Institute
      • Nollau to You trainings and events
      • Advocacy efforts with partners such as the UCC's policy office in Washington, DC
    • Partner with the President & CEO and Board Chair to develop agendas and materials for Board of Directors meetings, as well as attend all board meetings with the CEO, and at times make presentations to the board / facilitate generative discussions
    • Work with the President & CEO to develop agendas and materials for staff meetings, at times facilitating the meetings, brainstorming sessions and generative discussions
    • Assist the President & CEO with strategic planning, organizational development, and strengthening relationships with UCC partners (e.g., Pension Boards, United Church Funds, Cornerstone Fund, Church Building and Loan Fund, Financial Development Ministry)

    Financial Management

    • Provide leadership for the financial management of CHHSM
    • Collaborate with the President & CEO, accountant, and Board Treasurer on budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation
    • Oversee budget planning, as well as monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting
    • Prepare materials and reports for the Board of Directors and Finance Committee
    • Staff the Board of Directors’ Finance Committee
    • Exercises budget approval authority in the absence of the President and CEO, pursuant to the CHHSM Code of Regulations and financial policies and procedures manual

    Revenue Generation and Diversification

    • Lead fundraising and fund development efforts in collaboration with the President & CEO and partners
    • Identify and pursue grants to support CHHSM’s mission and administer the implementation of grants received
    • Develop and manage mission-aligned revenue-generating initiatives

    Human Resource Management

    • Provide leadership for human resource functions, including staff recruitment, supervision, and professional development
    • Administer annual performance reviews for all staff (excluding the President & CEO)
    • With the President & CEO, foster a collaborative, innovative, and mission-driven staff culture
    • Responsible for recommending staff compensation adjustments to the President/CEO, and contributing to staff policy decisions

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Represent CHHSM as needed on behalf of the President & CEO
    • Various other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    Required

    • 5 years of nonprofit leadership experience (health and human services preferred)
    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Nonprofit Management, Divinity, or related field
    • Strong experience in financial oversight, revenue development, and organizational management
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage personnel
    • Familiarity with marketing, communications, and strategic planning for nonprofits
    • Commitment to the values of CHHSM and the United Church of Christ
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Preferred

    • 8–10 years of nonprofit leadership experience (health and human services preferred)
    • Master’s degree in a related field

    Salary:

    • $90,000 - $120,000/annually, commensurate with experience.
