A day in the life of a Business Development - Sustainability at Vizzuality

We’re looking for a thoughtful, curious, and motivated team member to join our growing work at the intersection of sustainability, science, and business.

This is a cross-functional role supporting our collaborations with private-sector partners on nature- and climate-related topics, ranging from research and analysis on frameworks like TNFD, SBTN, and EUDR, to engaging directly with clients to explore strategic opportunities and shape impactful sales.

You might help co-develop a landscape assessment on nature-related risks, contribute to an ESG research report or service definition, participate in client meetings, or help identify and consolidate new business opportunities.

We’re a small, collaborative team with a mix of scientific, technical, and strategic backgrounds, working with organizations committed to aligning with global sustainability frameworks and driving sustainability transformation.

This role offers space to grow and evolve based on your skills, interests, and the needs of our work and partners.

These are some of the things you will do and achieve in your first year at Vizzuality.

    In your first month:

    • Shadow our business development team so you get used to the way of doing things. You will also get to meet the rest of the teams at Vizzuality.
    • Familiarise yourself with our latest successful and unsuccessful proposals, as well as with the support materials and processes we use in the team.
    • Gain an understanding of our service offering from a scientific and design perspective, including the types of solutions we develop, the methodologies and data we use, and how we communicate them to the private sector
    • Learn the software and tools we use in our business development and operations
    • Attend Business Development Strategy meetings and conversations

    During the following months:

    • Participate in introductory meetings with potential clients, helping to translate their needs, objectives, and sustainability-related challenges into clear, actionable opportunities.
    • Build a strong understanding of how science, technology, and design come together to support sustainability transformation in the private sector.
    • Collaborate with our science, communications, and campaigns teams to shape new offerings, contribute to ESG reports, and define communication actions and campaigns aligned with market and partner needs.
    • Contribute to research and analysis on key sustainability frameworks such as TNFD, SBTN, and EUDR, supporting the development of services and insights tailored to private-sector partners.
    • Identify and help consolidate emerging business opportunities that align with our mission and expertise, contributing to proposal development and strategic discussions.

Skills and experiences we are looking for in a candidate

(*) Even if you think you don't tick all the boxes below, we'd still love to hear from you. Nobody checks every box, and we are looking for someone excited to join the team and aligned with our purpose!

    • Knowledge in Sustainability: You have working experience or an academic background in ESG, sustainability, or environmental frameworks such as TNFD, SBTN, EUDR, or similar. You’re confident in engaging with these concepts and motivated to deepen your expertise.
    • Client-Facing & Business Development Interest: You’re energized by supporting business development and relationship-building efforts, particularly in the private sector (in industries such as Agri-food, Retail, Finance). You enjoy exploring needs, identifying opportunities, and helping shape ideas into concrete collaborations. You’re comfortable—or excited to grow—in having direct conversations with partners and potential clients.
    • Scientific Knowledge and Collaborative Mindset. You’re comfortable engaging with scientific information and helping translate complex insights into actionable, meaningful outputs. You thrive in multidisciplinary teams, especially when working alongside data scientists or technical experts. You value honest collaboration and contribute to a culture of trust, curiosity, and shared purpose.
    • Clear and Professional Communicator: You communicate effectively in English, both in writing and speaking. You’re able to express ideas clearly, contribute to project documents or proposals, and engage in client-facing interactions with professionalism and curiosity.
    • Analytical & Research Skills: You enjoy diving into complex topics through structured research and analysis. You’re able to synthesize insights clearly and contribute to well-informed proposals, reports, or strategic recommendations.

Anything else? Got something else that makes you stand out from the crowd?

Over time, we envision this role growing in scope, and we'd like the person in this role to take on more responsibilities. If you have experience across some/all of the following areas (or would like to learn more about any of them), we would love to hear more about it:

    • Strategic Communication & Storytelling: You’re interested in crafting communication or marketing strategies that bring scientific or sustainability-related work to life. You enjoy helping translate technical material into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
    • Content Creation & Outreach: You’re comfortable (or keen to learn) how to develop or manage content for various channels, such as websites, newsletters, presentations, or social media, ensuring alignment with project or partnership goals.
    • Comfortable with Data & Tools: You can navigate spreadsheets and basic datasets, and are open to learning how to support data-driven storytelling.
