    Assistant Director of Finance

    Supervisor: Director of Finance

    SUMMARY:

    Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this position plays a critical role in the financial operations of the City. The successful candidate will play a key role in the budget development and monitoring across all municipal departments. They will perform, oversee and manage a variety of posting and reconciliation activities, coordinate monthly reporting and monitoring of various accounts and work collaboratively with all finance units to accomplish strategic operational and performance goals.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead internal deliverables associated with monthly and quarterly reporting in the accounting and treasury areas.
    • Review and address departmental budgets to actual differences and ensure proper posting of activity to grant, special revenue, trust, and capital funds, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Provide leadership and support to the Finance team and other municipal departments as needed.
    • Some project and deliverable supervision responsibilities.
    • Produce and analyze bi-monthly budget reports. Communicate findings with and support various departments as needed.
    • Support the Finance team through year end close out processes with specific deliverables and support to other responsible departments.
    • Support the development and adherence to finance policies and procedures.
    • Collaborate to enhance accounting and reporting outputs, processes and workflows.
    • Provide communication and coordination across all departments in the annual budget development process.
    • Manage all budget communication tools.
    • Prepare annual reports for filing including, but not limited to the Schedule A, fixed assets, and Free Cash balance sheet reports to the Department of Revenue.
    • Work with external audit team at year end and as needed.
    • Reconcile Capital and debt projects with MUNIS and other applicable software.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent experience in a similar financial position.
    • A minimum of five years progressively responsible financial experience.
    • Demonstrated skills in communications with personnel at all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement.
    • Ability to interpret personnel policies and procedures and union contracts.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Independent problem solving skills.
    • Ability to present complex concepts in clear and concise ways.
    • Demonstrated organizational skills, flexibility, and high energy level.
    • Ability to develop and interpret mathematical formulas.
    • Accounting knowledge preferred but not required.
