    Position Title: Head Coach – Track & Field

    Reports To: Athletic Director

    Employment Type: Seasonal, Stipend-Based

    Summary:

    The Head Track & Field Coach is responsible for developing and leading a competitive, inclusive, and character-driven high school track program. This includes overseeing all aspects of training, meet preparation, team management, and athlete development across all track and field events (sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, throws, relays).

    Responsibilities:

      • Develop and implement practice plans that focus on skill development, conditioning, injury prevention, and team cohesion
      • Supervise assistant coaches and delegate responsibilities across event specialties
      • Promote academic excellence, sportsmanship, and positive team culture
      • Maintain accurate team rosters, manage meet entries, and coordinate with meet directors
      • Ensure compliance with school, district, and state athletic policies
      • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, and school staff
      • Monitor and care for all program equipment and uniforms
      • Foster participation and interest in track through outreach and offseason opportunities

    Qualifications:

      • Prior coaching experience in track and field (head or assistant)
      • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
      • Must be available to report to MacArthur High School by 4:00 PM on weekdays
      • Must pass the DCPS Athletic Clearance Process, including fingerprinting and background checks
      • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
      • DCPS Coaching Certification (or ability to complete upon hire)
