    Position Summary:

    The Finance Director is a key member of The Oaks Park Association (OPA) leadership team, responsible for ensuring the organization’s financial health and sustainability. This role is operational and strategic, managing daily accounting functions while shaping financial strategy, risk management, and long-term planning. The Finance Director partners with the CEO, Board of Directors, and OPA leadership to ensure financial decision-making aligns with OPA’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

    Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

    Accounting and Financial Operations

    • Manage all aspects of Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P), ensuring timely and accurate processing.
    • Prepare and post journal entries to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
    • Reconcile brokerage, bank, and credit card statements and oversee the month-end and year-end close process; monitor daily cash flow to ensure effective cash management.
    • Oversee preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and board review.
    • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support strategic decision-making.

    Insurance and Benefits Administration

    • Administer and manage all commercial insurance and workers’ compensation policies, including renewals, claims, and broker relationships.
    • Oversee the administration of the organization’s 401(k) program, including compliance with federal regulations and employee communication.

    Payroll and HR Support

    • Assist HR with payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely distribution.
    • Provide support with payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations.

    Leadership and Compliance

    • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to align financial management with the park’s mission and long-term goals.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and internal policies.
    • Coordinate the annual independent review and assist with preparing IRS Form 990 and state CT-12 informational tax returns.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions.
    • Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes, systems, and controls.
    • Perform other work as assigned, which may not be listed above. These duties may change with or without notice.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in nonprofit or entertainment/recreation industries.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
    • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel expertise required).
    • Experience managing commercial insurance policies and retirement plans.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.

    Physical Demands:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., files, office supplies, small equipment).
    • Regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment.
    • May occasionally need to move between office spaces and park facilities, requiring short periods of walking or standing.
    • Ability to work in a busy environment with potential interruptions and shifting priorities.

    Schedule:

    • Full-time (40 hours per week) with a standard Monday-Friday schedule.
    • Occasional evenings or weekends may be required to meet reporting deadlines, participate in Board or Finance Committee meetings, support financial review/audit, or during special events requiring “all hands on deck.”
