Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service

  • Mission

The mission of the Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service is to promote literacy through adult basic and English language instruction.

    About Us

One in six adults in Tulsa County cannot read the prescription label on a medicine bottle, understand a newspaper article, or enter complete information on an application. The Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service, part of Tulsa City-County Library, trains volunteers from the community to serve as adult literacy tutors. Our program is unique in that we facilitate one-on-one tutor/learner pairs in order to better meet the unique needs of our adult learners. We serve adults age 16+ in Tulsa County who read at a 6th grade level or below. Our learners include English Language Learners (ELLs) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) learners.
