    About Us

    Northstar Tutoring, a Washington, D.C.-based educational nonprofit, is seeking a part-time intern for the fall semester. Northstar’s mission is to help children from low-income families living in the Washington, D.C. area reach their full potential by overcoming barriers to personal and academic success. To achieve this mission, Northstar provides students with their own tutors and facilitates multiple weekly tutoring sessions. Through these relationships, students not only receive much-needed academic support, but also the stability that comes through a caring tutor–mentor relationship.

    Position

    This role includes approximately 5 in-person hours each week (in Columbia Heights or Shaw) and 5 hours of virtual work. The intern will report directly to the program directors.

    Intern Responsibilities May Include

    • Program Management: Helping program directors during tutoring hours (signing in students and volunteers, taking attendance, supplying educational materials)
    • Volunteer Onboarding: Interviewing new tutors and ensuring they complete the required documents
    • Grant Writing: Researching funding opportunities and helping draft grant proposals
    • Fundraising Support: Assisting with donor outreach, thank-you letters, and fundraising campaigns
    • Social Media Management: Creating and scheduling posts, developing content, and growing our online presence

    Who We Are Looking For

    • Strong writing and communication skills
    • Passion for education, youth development, and equity
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter
    • Experience with social media, Canva, and Google Workspace
    • Spanish language skills is a plus
