The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) is looking for a part-time Data Analysis Intern (approximately 10 hours/week), ideally starting in September 2025, based in our Minneapolis office.

    Who are you?

You are a talented, highly motivated, and detail-oriented individual with a proactive mindset and a strong interest in climate, agriculture, and corporate accountability. You’re comfortable working with data and enjoy digging into complex datasets to uncover meaningful insights. Whether you’re analyzing company climate reports or identifying trends in federal conservation data, you approach your work with curiosity and precision. You’re organized, communicative, and eager to contribute to impactful research that supports climate justice and sustainable food systems. You’re excited about the opportunity to support IATP’s climate team and gain experience in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

    Who are we?

IATP is a nonprofit policy advocacy organization with its headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our mission is to work locally and globally at the intersection of policy and practice to ensure fair and sustainable food, farm and trade systems. Staff match high-level research and analysis with on-the-ground engagement to bring good policy into practice. In addition to our headquarters in Minneapolis, we have small offices in Washington, D.C. and Berlin, Germany. (More at iatp.org)

    The Position:

IATP seeks a part-time intern to assist in data analysis support. This internship is expected to be approximately 10 hours per week over the course of three months and offers a flexible, hybrid schedule. This intern will provide research support to our climate team on two projects:

Corporate accountability in the food system

    • Support for this project will include collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data on corporate climate reporting and global climate-related disclosure laws. Data will be collected from company reports, financial filings, policy documents, and other public data sources. The goal of this research is to continue developing IATP’s Meat and Dairy Emissions Dashboard, a database of major meat and dairy companies’ emissions data and exposure to climate-related disclosure laws. The Dashboard currently includes 23 company-level variables and 20 climate-related disclosure laws.

Climate adoption of conservation and mitigation on working farmlands in the United States

    • Support for this project will include sorting through existing data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on adoption of various working lands conservation programs administered by the department — identifying gaps, trends, and untold stories from the data. The person in this position will also help with updating IATP’s Obstacles and Opportunities for On-Farm Conservation landing page.

    Responsibilities:

The Data Analysis Intern will support the climate program team in the following activities:

    • Collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data from public data sources
    • Tracking the proposal, adoption, and implementation of global climate-related disclosure laws
    • Fact-checking data from public sources
    • Updating IATP’s landing page for our reports on farm conservation

    Preferred Qualities and Qualifications:

    • Committed to IATP’s mission and values, with a curiosity and eagerness to learn about relevant subject areas
    • Academic coursework or equivalent experience analyzing data related to climate change, corporate accountability, or agriculture
    • Experience with Excel and/or data visualization platforms (e.g. Flourish)
    • Demonstrated ability to research complex issues and translate material into accessible content
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented in managing tasks
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
    • Access to a reliable computer

    Physical Requirements:

    • The position will be based in Minneapolis and follow a flexible hybrid schedule
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

    Benefits and Compensation:

Compensation for this internship is based upon qualifications and experience, with an hourly range of $18-20/hour. IATP offers interns paid safe and sick time leave. Enjoy a lively, collegial, flexible, and dog-friendly work environment.

    How to Apply:

Please submit a resume and cover letter to jobs@iatp.org.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis after July 13. No phone calls, please.
