    Programming Events Intern

    Organization Overview:

    The Harvard Business School Club of New York (the “Club”) is a unique and powerful association connecting the leadership and management expertise of Harvard Business School (HBS) alumni with the vital, creative, and dynamic community of Greater New York City. The mission of the Club is to Make a Difference and to Support Harvard Business School by Engaging Alumni, Impacting Community, Fostering Leadership and Lifelong Learning.

    The Club is a nonprofit organization that is governed by a Board of Directors composed of HBS alumni. The various activities of the Club serve 13,000 HBS alumni in the New York City region with the support of alumni volunteers in sectors ranging from programming to pro bono consulting to angel investing.

    Job Description

    The Programming Events Intern position is an exciting opportunity for a current student to support the Programming division of the Club. The Intern will work closely with and be supervised by the Club’s Events Program Manager. This position will be an opportunity to strengthen one’s skills in event planning, marketing, administration, social media, surveying and Mailchimp analytics, while working in a professional environment that intersects with business, entrepreneurs, and social enterprise sectors. This internship requires someone who can work one to two evenings per week as needed. The majority of the Club’s events take place in midtown Manhattan where the Club’s office is located. This internship can qualify for course credit.

    Tasks & Roles

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Event Planning and Execution: Assist in the production and marketing of the Club’s events, including pre-event planning, event execution and post-event communications and analytics/reporting. Tasks include:
    • Creating reports on attendance, audience profiles and ticket sales
    • Assisting with registration of guests at events
    • Taking photos of speakers and audience during an event
    • Reconciling attendance post-event in the Club’s database
    • Devising and analyzing post-event surveys sent to attendees
    • Creating registration check-in lists and other materials for events
    • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly board reports and management presentations
    • Social Media: Be a member of the creative team that reviews social media posts for the Club, collecting photos and hashtags from events
    • Research (Time permitting): Conduct online research on request (e.g. create lists of HBS-founded businesses, news about current Club members, and upcoming events at other HBS Clubs around the world)

    Skills

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Detail-oriented self-starter with great organizational skills
    • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Google email platform
    • Working knowledge of Zoom, Chat GPT, Google Analytics and Airtable (not required, but a plus)
    • Well-versed in digital marketing platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook
    • Excellent photography skills are a plus
    • Keen sense of customer service ensuring the Club’s values and professionalism are respected

    Education

    College Junior or Senior in Marketing, Business Management, Communications, Event Planning, Hospitality Management or a second-year community college student in the same areas.

    Experience

    Demonstrated effectiveness in administrative and creative support, digital marketing, working with committees and managing weekly tasks.

    Time and Compensation:

    • This is a 10-12 hour per week, non-exempt paid internship working during business hours Monday through Friday with weekly in-person attendance at programming daytime and early evening events
    • Compensation is $20 per hour
    • Some flexibility in work hours is available, but in person attendance at events is required.
    • Commences in September

This position would provide opportunities for networking and education on various topics. We hold events at various firms throughout midtown, not far from our offices in Times Square.
