    Description

    This is a service-based AmeriCorps position. Members receive a living allowance, training, and a post-service education award upon successful completion.

    The mission of the Spokane Service Team (SST) is to create or support community projects, which benefit the greater Spokane area, while providing education, training and service opportunities for young people. The SST Crew Member will complete low-income housing and remodel projects. Team-based crew with some construction experience required and additional training provided.

    Responsibilities:

    • Attend all Spokane Service Team trainings and AmeriCorps national days of service.
    • Maintain accurate and timely reports and timecards.
    • Document and share stories, photos, and videos highlighting the AmeriCorps service project’s activities and impact to promote participation in project-related events.
    • Model positive team attitude, work ethic, and behavior.
    • Be punctual and present each day.
    • Assist crew supervisor in preparing for and wrapping up each day.
    • Assist crew supervisor in the leadership of crewmembers.
    • Demonstrate best practices in construction assignments and use of tools necessary to complete tasks. Assist team members to learn the proper methods.
    • Organize the work to be accomplished on service projects.
    • Communicate work assignments from construction staff to SST crewmembers.
    • Work with staff to enforce SST procedures.
    • Track project materials, supplies and tools.
    • Monitor safety procedures while on construction sites.
    • Record information from weekly safety meetings.
    • Report directly to Construction Supervisor.
    • Attend leadership development opportunities.
    • Represent AmeriCorps and NEWESD 101 in a positive and professional manner.
    • Construction labor:
      • Setting concrete forms (both vertical and horizontal)
      • Roofing and siding
      • Rough and finish carpentry
      • Installation of sheet rock, taping and mudding
      • Tile setting
      • Exterior and interior painting
      • Install doors, casework, trim
      • Landscaping, installing irrigation systems
      • Digging holes, setting posts, hanging fence parts
      • Moving dirt and gravel
      • Demolition and removal of debris
      • Use of power and hand tools
      • Sweep and mop floors; vacuum carpets; scrub walls; clean tools, equipment, service vehicles, and work area.
