Position Summary:

The Program Intern is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and occasionally evaluation of programs and activities based on the needs of Generation Hope Scholars and their families, Sponsors, staff, and volunteers. The Next Generation Academy Program Intern works in coordination with the program team and provides support to Generation Hope staff. The Program Intern will also have the opportunity to design and implement a project of their choosing—this could range from creating new resources for our Scholars to designing elements of training, etc.

Candidates are expected to participate in this internship at least 20 hours per week. Candidates who can volunteer additional time are preferable. Interns will receive an incentive of $3,000 for their participation in the internship program. This incentive is intended to support the costs you may incur during your internship at Generation Hope, such as childcare. Internships begin on September 1st and run through December 19th, with some flexibility on starting and ending dates (13 weeks minimum). The intern will be frequently asked to be in the office and in-person events. Candidates must live/have housing in the DC Metro area. Potential to extend internship for Spring 2026 pending availability and performance.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee logistical details related to DMV Scholar and Next Generation Academy program activities including monthly Family Dinners, fall field trips, and incentives for program participation.
• Assist with maintaining Scholar/Sponsor records and database files.
• Assist with marketing and communicating the Generation Hope Scholar Program to the community to include tabling events
• Track program participation and prepare reports as necessary.
• Attend and take notes at the Next Generation Academy meetings.
• Create weekly round-up emails to all Next Generation Academy Scholars regarding upcoming events and early childhood education, events, and resources that will assist with the program's goals and objectives.
• Support the Senior Early Childhood Manager with data collection and create dashboards for Next Generation Academy metrics.
• Assist with the DC Programming Holiday party on December 10, 2025.
• Actively participate in various events throughout the fall, such as Fall in-service/Wishlist and Field trip.
• Attend all monthly family dinners and ensure that incentives are given to Scholars to encourage participation.
• Assist with childcare during events as needed.
• Assist with maintaining and updating the Scholar Program and Next Generation Academy resource repository.
• Assist with organizing the Next Generation Academy Childcare Curriculum and Home Visit Activity Plans and Materials; maintain organization the Program team storage room.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required. Preference will be given to candidates with some college experience, particularly those studying Early childhood development,
• Elementary Education, Family Studies, Social Work, Health and Human Services, or a related field.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs/Google Suites/CANVA/Monday.com and willingness to learn software programs as needed

Competencies:

• Strong writing skills and detail-oriented.
• Most importantly, the ideal candidate needs to be self-directed and able to carry through projects with little oversight.
• Ability to access transportation to and from the office and to events in the DC Metro area.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Scholars, staff members, and external stakeholders.
• Ability to commit to the internship schedule for the duration of the fall semester.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 10lbs at times.

Work Environment: Normal office environment. Some work will take place offsite.
