    About the IWMF:

    The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is the only global non-profit organization that offers emergency support, safety training, global reporting opportunities, and funding for both staff reporters and freelancers, all specifically tailored for women and gender diverse journalists. Our mission is to ensure more opportunities, bylines, and recognition of women and nonbinary journalists and create a greater diversity of voices in journalism.

    Role Overview:

    Reporting to the Associate Development Manager, the Development Coordinator will play an instrumental role in garnering support from funders and donors to sustain the vital programming of the IWMF. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability in the full grants lifecycle—from prospect research to grantwriting to reporting. The Development Coordinator will also support the creation and implementation of original campaigns and strategies that will engage current donors, attract new donors and convert both into regular contributors to our mission. This position will assist in the IWMF's donor outreach throughout the year including our annual Courage in Journalism Awards working to secure funding and sponsorships while enhancing our fundraising efforts. This may include drafting social media messaging, organizing events, and implementing other creative funder outreach strategies as well as representing the IWMF in the community and at networking events. The Development Coordinator is a multi-faceted, collaborative position.

    Grants

    • Serve as a steward of existing grants by tracking their lifecycles, including funder payments, reports and other deadlines
    • Write grant proposals and foundation reports, working closely with the programs team and assuring that the IWMF meets guidelines and funder expectations
    • Research and identify new foundation opportunities, co-author letters of inquiry and concept papers in collaboration with programs team
    • Assist in electronic (CRM + Shared Drive) record keeping of partnerships, grant proposals, agreements, reports, and payments

    Fundraising & Donor Engagement

    • Assist in the development of fundraising campaigns throughout the year
    • Contribute to ongoing communications and outreach for donors with oversight from Associate Development Manager and Executive Director, including recording these touches in the CRM
    • Support the design of targeted campaigns for entry to mid-level donors in collaboration with communications team and oversight from Associate Development Manager
    • Conduct research to identify donor prospects
    • Work with finance team members to ensure accurate record keeping, including audit materials
    • Process and record donations as needed
    • Process and distribute contribution acknowledgements

    Database Management and Logistics

    • Track and input information into CRM to ensure clean, well organized data including correspondence, acknowledgements, etc.
    • Assist Associate Development Manager in analyzing donor database, including reporting and prospect identification
    • Keep accurate and up-to-date records on foundations, individual donors, companies, etc. including names, contact information, and affiliations for recognition
    • Assist in pulling and scrubbing data for segmentation and outreach

    Events

    • Assist with coordination of the Courage in Journalism Awards events fundraising with Associate Development Manager, Deputy Executive Director and Executive Director
    • Help with logistics for cultivation events, including liaising with external partners and creating internal work plans (preferably using Asana)

    Other

    • Occasional scheduling correspondence, administrative tasks, etc.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher
    • 1-2 years of progressive work experience
    • Previous fundraising experience
    • Eligible to work in the United States

    • Self-starter who is organized, flexible, and able to successfully manage multiple complex projects, programs and priorities simultaneously
    • Effectively manages up to anticipate the needs of your supervisor
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; assists with implementation of cross-departmental initiatives
    • Experience working with high-level internal and external contacts in a diplomatic and professional manner
    • Positive, solutions-oriented approach a must
    • Fluency in English, including excellent written and oral communications skills
    • Passion for IWMF’s mission; exemplifies the values and culture of the organization, upholding current policies and procedures
    • Exhibits enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit; ability to motivate others and a sense of humor required
    • Knowledge of the news media and development industry a plus
    • Donor Database/CRM experience preferred (DonorPerfect, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge or similar)

    Employment Type:

    Full-time. IWMF headquarters are located in Washington, DC. Preferred work location in New York or Washington, DC. The IWMF staff works remotely.
