    Communications and Outreach Coordinator

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The mission of Germantown United Community Development Corporation (GU) is to promote and facilitate the revitalization of Germantown and its business corridors through a sustainable, creative, and community-driven approach to economic development.

    The Communications and Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in advancing Germantown United CDC’s mission by managing external communications and leading outreach to both small businesses and residents in Germantown. This position blends strategic storytelling, neighborhood engagement, and event promotion to strengthen connections with local stakeholders and highlight Germantown as a vibrant, inclusive community. Please note, this position is contract funded by the City of Philadelphia’s Commerce Department.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Business & Residential Outreach

      • Conduct in-person outreach to local businesses and residents to assess needs and connect them with relevant programs and services.
      • Serve as a point of contact for residents and businesses with questions about GU programs or City resources
      • Collaborate with community members to address quality-of-life concerns, corridor beautification initiatives, and public safety efforts.

    Marketing & Communications

      • Develop and implement marketing campaigns that promote Germantown’s small businesses and raise awareness of GU’s work.
      • Design and distribute outreach materials and monthly newsletters for residents and businesses.
      • Update contact lists for newsletters
      • Maintain the Germantown United website and print/digital outreach tools as needed.
      • Coordinate social media schedule and craft posts to promote community events, new business openings, community milestones, and GU programming.

    Community Representation & Collaboration

      • Build relationships with local organizations, neighborhood institutions, and community groups.
      • Represent Germantown United CDC at events and community meetings as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including digital content creation.
      • Ability to work in the field with diverse community members; comfortable with door-to-door outreach.
      • Proficient with design and communication tools (e.g., Canva, MailChimp, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Monday.com).
      • Deep interest in community development and familiarity with Germantown (zip codes 19144/19138) strongly preferred.
      • Must have Driver’s License and Vehicle for Outreach

    Germantown United Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit organization serving the vibrant Germantown section of Philadelphia. Germantown is known for its rich history, economic diversity, and active civic engagement. Our mission at Germantown United CDC is twofold: To support all Germantown residents by providing access to programs and services that improve quality of life, with a focus on traditionally underserved populations; and to drive revitalization efforts along our commercial corridors and support small businesses.

    At GU, we provide referrals to community-based, city, and private resources and connect clients with assistance and services offered by government agencies and partner organizations. We also organize educational workshops, community meetings, and events that align with our mission. Best of all, all services are offered at no-cost.

    GU is a growing organization with a small but highly engaged and competent staff. As a small business ourselves, we currently have a staff of under five employees.

    COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Salary: $42,000/year.
    • Schedule: Full-time 37.5-hour workweek. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Schedule requires some flexibility for occasional evening and weekend meetings/activities.
    • Benefits: Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
    • Paid time off: 4 weeks of PTO (accrual basis), Holidays including the week off between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
    • Work environment and location: This is an on-site position, working out of Germantown United CDC’s office at 5320 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19144 (corner of W Penn St). A small, dedicated team carries out GU’s day-to-day operations. There will also be fieldwork throughout Germantown (19138/19144)
