    Organizational Background

    The Wildlife Conservation Network is a rapidly growing leader in wildlife conservation, working with over 125 species in more than 84 countries across the world. WCN uses its collaborative, entrepreneurial, innovative, and philanthropically generous approach to wildlife conservation to reverse crises facing threatened species. In support of WCN’s mission to protect endangered species and preserve their natural habitats by supporting entrepreneurial conservationists who pursue innovative strategies for people and wildlife to coexist and thrive, WCN gives entrepreneurial leaders access to donors and a range of resources and tools they need to be successful.

    WCN’s dedicated and diverse team values the people and relationships behind conservation as much as the science and strategy to save wildlife. We are looking for an experienced Marketing and Communications Manager that is a strategic communicator with strong writing skills to lead outreach efforts across media, thought leadership, advertising, and content. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of experience, a proactive mindset, and the ability to elevate WCN’s visibility and voice. This role will report to the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications, and can be hybrid/remote.

    Outreach

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Advertising and Partnerships:
      • Develop strategy for using advertising to gain brand visibility and donations for WCN.
      • Manage advertising projects and pursue opportunities.
      • Explore collaborative partnerships
    • Thought Leadership:
      • Develop a thought leadership strategy
      • Identify strategic opportunities and apply to speaking engagements
      • Manage calendar of opportunities and submission details
      • Support participating staff with preparation and materials for speaking events
      • Leverage existing partnerships to raise WCN’s profile
    • Press and Media:
      • Manage high-production video projects
        • Manage/liaise with filmmakers
        • Review and shape scripts
        • Offer feedback on rough cuts
        • Share with WCN audiences
      • Liaise with reporters
      • Help prep WCN staff for interviews (prepare statements, research reporters, develop briefing materials)
      • Track media coverage and ensure coverage is promoted on WCN channels
      • Draft and review press releases as needed
      • Identify and pursue podcasting opportunities

    Content

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Drafting stories for newsletters and annual reports
    • Develop talking points and slide decks for WCN staff presentations
    • Aid external event speakers with their presentations, helping them develop story arcs, reviewing slides, and adhering to best practices
    • Manage and develop content and schedule for WCN’s blog. Includes liaising with volunteer and freelance contributors.

    Technical Skills and Experience Desired:

    • 5+ years of relevant experience in writing, communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations
    • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills
    • Media outreach experience and media savvy
    • Proficient in PowerPoint and Google Slides
    • Strong project management skills
    • Experience with elevating brand awareness
    • Video editing skills are a plus, but not required
    • Photography skills are a plus, but not required

    • Adaptability: Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and requirements while maintaining quality standards
    • Knowledge of conservation or environmental issues is a plus.

    Compensation and benefits:

    The salary range is $90,000-$100,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience. Salary may vary for applicants residing outside the San Francisco Bay Area, based on location and cost of living considerations. In addition, benefits include: medical, dental, vision insurance contributions, chiropractic/acupuncture, basic life insurance, AD&D, Health FSA and Dependent care (pre-tax payroll dollars), a retirement plan where WCN matches 100% of employees contribution up to 6% of employee’s salary, 11 paid holidays with 1 paid floating holiday, 15 days of paid vacation in the first year (+1 day per year worked), paid sick leave, and an employee discount program.
