    Position Overview:

    YES’ Violence Prevention Coordinator oversees a broad range of programs and initiatives funded by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) aimed at reducing community violence in Pittsburgh. This funding allows YES to facilitate a teen council and provide youth, families, and community members with a hub of resources that support their resilience, well-being, and needs through outward facing violence prevention programming and YES’ collective impact partnership. An individual in this position will manage and coordinate YES’ violence prevention work with the collective impact partnership and through other PCCD-funded initiatives, including ones listed below. This position requires a deep understanding of the state’s violence prevention landscape and a keen understanding of how YES’ grant-funded work fits within it.

    Below are a subset of programs YES operated YES Violence Prevention Programs referenced throughout the job description:

    • Youth Justice Advisory Board (YJAB): Also known as Teen Council; groups of teens that convene weekly to design and implement projects addressing community violence; includes a group of 5 teens on the Executive Board who help plan the meetings
    • Fun Fitness Involving Sports Health (FFISH): Fitness program for K-8 students with offerings in basketball, swimming, boxing, tumbling, and golf; facilitated by outside contractors; mental health specialists come to deliver an SEL curriculum for 30 minutes at the end of the fitness class
    • Collective Impact Violence Prevention Partnership (CIVPP): A group of organizations that meet virtually monthly, primarily to plan violence prevention initiatives and YES’ Violence Prevention Symposium
    • Restorative Leaders Institute (RLI): Pilot program run through the Center for Victims, in which 15 teens meet for three Saturdays to learn about restorative justice; in their final project, they identify a harm they see in their schools, families, or communities and develop a project to address it

    Position Responsibilities:

    YES’ Violence Prevention Coordinator engages in tasks related to partnership cultivation, event development, reporting and evaluation, and program oversight. The responsibilities are more clearly defined below:

    Collective Impact Violence Prevention Partnership (CIVPP)

    • Work alongside the executive director to engage partners in implementing YES’ strategic ideas and adhering to PCCD grant goals and outcomes
    • Engage in weekly planning meetings with executive director regarding YES’ broader vision for violence prevention programming and partnership growth management
    • Plan and organize logistics for partnership meetings
    • Create agenda, powerpoints, handouts, and other meeting materials for convenings
    • Transcribe notes and facilitate the presentation during ecosystem meetings and disseminate those to partners
    • Communicate with members to discuss program opportunities, meetings, and updates
    • Manage membership contact list and track new organizations and stakeholder engagement as necessary
    • Schedule individual membership meetings based on need
    • Work with Programs Manager to conduct data collection and compose quarterly reports
    • Design and maintain an interactive map of Pittsburgh-based organizations focused on violence prevention and intervention, highlighting available resources for families
    • Promote awareness and accessibility of the map among families, ensuring they can navigate and utilize it effectively

    Youth Justice Advisory Board (YJAB)

    • Plan and execute weekly Youth Justice Advisory Board (YJAB) meetings and monthly Executive Board meetings
    • Coordinate and/or participate in state-wide or national YJAB conferences and convenings
    • Utilize YES’ resources and partnerships to execute initiatives that the YJAB students believe are important
    • Oversee the management of YES’ Community Garden
    • Facilitate involvement of Diversion students into the YJAB

    Violence Prevention Symposium

    • Work alongside Collective Impact partners to plan and execute the annual Violence Prevention Symposium
    • Lead or support the development of the symposium’s vision and goals, ensuring YJAB youth play an active role in the planning and execution
    • Coordinate participation of presenters, speakers, facilitators, participants, and volunteers.
    • Meet regularly with executive director to ensure the symposium aligns with their vision
    • Recruit students and partners to lead breakout sessions
    • Coordinate with vendors and venues
    • Create and disseminate registration materials
    • Draft symposium-related materials: press releases, schedules, speaker bios, event descriptions, signage, and post-event communications

    Fun Fitness Involving Sports Health (FFISH)

    • Oversee YES’ Fun Fitness for Sports and Health (FFISH) Programming by coordinating resources, supporting program development, engaging in case management of student participants, developing programming alongside external program team, and advancing program research efforts
    • Ensure open and consistent communication with families
    • Assist in planning and executing the FFISH Closing Ceremony at the culmination of each cohort

    Other PCCD-funded Initiatives

    • Plan and execute YES’ Restorative Leaders Institute
    • Coordinate all of YES’ violence-related community outreach efforts and resources
    • Attend meetings and violence prevention-related convenings as a YES representative (YJAB

    monthly meeting, PA Peace Alliance PD, WestED technical assistance, occasional calls with PCCD Representatives)

    • Conduct and attend PCCD specific meetings with project staff to support project implementation and development
    • Develop relationships and build partnerships with community and professional leaders

    Key Performance Indicators

    • Lead YJAB meetings
    • Plan and run monthly collective impact partnership meeting
    • Meet grant deliverables for PCCD YJAB and HUB programming
    • Attend community-led violence convenings and meetings
    • Coordinate and plan violence prevention symposium

    Compensation

    • Compensation is commensurate with experience.
