    Position Description

The Contract ESOL Teacher will be responsible for teaching English to adult students who are parents of young children. Meeting in-person and online, our innovative program is supplemented by volunteers who support speaking and vocabulary activities both in and outside of the classroom and frequent Parent Workshops that are team-taught.

Classes are designed for immigrant parents of young children and center the lived experiences, identities, and goals of caregivers. Grounded in a two-generation approach, the English For Parents (EFP) curriculum helps parents develop English language skills while strengthening their role as their child’s first teacher. Each lesson connects language instruction to real-life applications—supporting communication with doctors and teachers, engaging in early childhood development, building literacy routines at home, and navigating public systems. Through a combination of teacher-led instruction and one-on-one tutoring, parents gain confidence, build community, and advance toward long-term goals in education, employment, and family leadership. By focusing on parents’ needs and strengths, the program builds their capacity and knowledge to guide and support their children’s academic success.

    • Maintain a class atmosphere that is culturally responsive and inclusive

    • Manage in-class volunteers and interns and integrate them meaningfully into the lessons
    • Participate in Community of Practice sessions with the teaching team
    • Report on key indicators of students’ progress using BEST Plus 3.0 testing, registration information, and student surveys
    • Follow up on students with poor attendance and maintain the student roster
    • Complete 14 hours of professional development through the RAEN office per grant requirement
