    Description

    Summary:

    The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is the premier nonprofit association serving the volunteer fire, emergency, and rescue services. Today, the NVFC serves as the voice of over one million volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel on Capitol Hill and provides valuable training, programs, and other resources.

    The NVFC seeks a full-time Director of Education. This position is remote but will ideally be based in the Washington, DC, area near core staff and NVFC functions. The position will help develop and oversee all the association’s training and educational programs including virtual classroom, webinars, in-person training, and other initiatives. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement a training/education strategy for the organization while ensuring high-quality, interactive, up-to-date and relevant content for NVFC members.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that NVFC is providing high-quality, relevant, and up-to-date training to NVFC members and stakeholders
    • Develop annual and multi-year training strategy and goals for NVFC in close coordination with management
    • Facilitate the identification, prioritization and implementation of new training/education programs and offerings
    • Maintain and manage procedural manuals and record-keeping activities for NVFC’s training and educational initiatives.
    • Ensure all educational resources are up-to-date and easily accessible by our members and stakeholders. Seeks CEU’s when applicable.
    • Oversee process for selecting instructors and training locations, ensuring diversity and equity
    • Oversee instructor selection and processes as well as development, dissemination, and compilation of course evaluations and participant certificates
    • Coordinate with Communications team to develop messaging, announce training opportunities, and solicit registrations and participation in training events
    • Responsible for the supervision, engagement, and morale of assigned staff, and ensures that strong, positive relationships are developed with other departments, Board members, and other stakeholders.
    • Create and manage budgets and oversee the implementation of approved programs and events, including all pre- and post-event activities
    • Provide and update content for training areas of website, newsletters, etc.
    • Compile data and analyze past and current education trends to identify ways to work towards continual process improvement.
    • Coordinates, schedules, and facilitates various internal and external meetings, which may include onsite management of meetings and events to include oversight of logistics, vendors and staff as needed
    • Provide presentations on training efforts and metrics, as needed
    • Provide weekly upcoming training courses, webinars and updates via newsletter
    • Attend trade shows and meetings as needed
    • May serve as liaison to committees or subcommittees as assigned
    • Act as Moderator on webinars
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications/Skills/Competencies Required:

    • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and management of professional education programs
    • Familiarity with continuing education, program evaluation and adult learning principles
    • Proven expertise in managing end-to-end meeting and event planning with sound judgment in budgeting, logistics, vendor coordination and collaboration with instructors and stakeholders
    • Highly organized with the ability to learn quickly, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with high attention to detail
    • Demonstrated abilities in collaborative team building and consensus
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other productivity tools
    • Demonstrated ability to understand and respond to the needs of target audiences and member segments
    • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills and ability to present information accurately, persuasively, and concisely to different audiences
    • Ability to work well under pressure, determine priorities, and produce results
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and hands-on experience with federal grants management
    • Project management skills to manage schedules and deadlines for ongoing initiatives
    • Background or experience with online program development and delivery, web-related technologies, and media skills
    • Excellent customer service ethic and responsiveness
    • Demonstrated willingness to embrace change and adapt strategies as needed
    • Ability to understand the importance of the position related to the success of NVFC
    • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards and professional image
    • Strong desire to continue to learn and develop new and exciting, interactive content
    • Must demonstrate accuracy and keen attention to detail and seek to improve/promote quality in the organization while exhibiting objectivity and openness to others’ views
    • Ability to operate and manage in a virtual office environment
    • Well-respected, with proven management, judgment, industry relations, and communications expertise derived from work with successful organizations

    Education/Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in Communications, Education, Curriculum & Instruction or related degree from accredited four-year college or university; four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Volunteer fire service experience or knowledge of the volunteer fire service is preferred.
