    Position Overview:

    The Executive Director serves as the chief visionary and catalyst for the Fair Trade Federation and the Fair Trade Alliance, inspiring bold progress toward our mission and long-term aspirations. In partnership with the Chair and Board of Directors, the Executive Director shapes and champions a future-focused strategy, ensuring our values drive innovation and impact benefiting our members and stakeholders. This leader empowers the team, stewards organizational culture, creates unity around purpose and oversees operations and programs, all while anticipating emerging opportunities and forging new pathways for Fair Trade to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

    Core Responsibilities:

    Programs (50%)

    • Provide high caliber management of the membership verification and screening processes;
    • Guide and implement a wide array of programs that support members’ growth and build community among fair trade enterprises;
    • Coordinate fundraising and growth of Fair Trade Alliance (the non-profit sister organization to the FTF) in an effort to reach a wide variety of allied retail stores;
    • Plan the Fair Trade Conference, including quality content and on-site management;
    • Oversee the creation and implementation of the yearly operational plans, the current strategic plan and future strategic planning processes;
    • Take responsibility for meeting the annual operational plan targets;
    • Be forward thinking and continuously develop programs that will benefit Fair Trade Federation members.

    Administration and Finances (15%)

    • Oversee cohesive, efficient, and effective administrative systems that grow along with the Federation;
    • Hire and retain competent, qualified staff, conduct annual performance reviews and make compensation recommendations to the board as appropriate;
    • Manage all fiscal aspects of the Federation in a way that encourages growth, ensures responsible use of resources, and maintains a strong financial position.
    • Responsible for development and retention of both member and donation revenue streams

    Governance (10%)

    • Support a strong Board of Directors;
    • Communicate effectively and provide all information necessary for the board to function properly and make informed decisions;
    • Provide staff support to committees so they can properly perform their duties.

    Recruitment and Retention (10%)

    • Maintain positive and productive relationships with current and potential members, so as to ensure long term financial and organizational stability of the Federation;
    • Recruit members in order to grow the community of fair trade enterprises;
    • Continuously communicate with current and potential members so that they are actively engaged with the Federation and its community.

    External Relations (10%)

    • Be active and visible in the fair trade community;
    • Maintain a knowledge of developments and trends within the movement;
    • Work closely with allied organizations to identify points of collaboration;
    • Be a strong advocate for FTF members and the fair trade enterprise model.

    Promotion and Public Awareness (5%)

    • Promote the work of the Federation and its members through publications and external communications;
    • Develop and implement a high level, strategic communications and messaging strategy.
    • Implement messaging campaigns that represent the Federation’s members and mission.

    Salary:
