Development Specialist

Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice), an award-winning not-for-profit legal services organization founded in 1996 to protect and promote the basic human rights of immigrants, has a multicultural and a multilingual staff. AI Justice has represented clients from around the world and is recognized as a powerful advocate and national leader for immigrants' rights. AI Justice works closely with traditional civil rights groups as well as grassroots organizations and local, state and national government officials to affect positive change in immigration policies.

AI Justice is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented, full-time Development Specialist to join our dynamic Development team. The Development Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the organization’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This position is responsible for maintaining and analyzing donor data, tracking contributions and interactions, and supporting donor stewardship initiatives. The Development Specialist assists with individual giving campaigns, major donor outreach, and the preparation of grant proposals. They also help coordinate logistics for fundraising events and collaborate with the communications team to ensure consistent donor messaging across platforms. Additional responsibilities include scheduling meetings, preparing briefing materials, and supporting the development team with administrative tasks. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintain and update donor database systems.
• Track gifts, pledges, in-kind donations, and donor interactions.
• Generate reports and analyze donor trends and retention.
• Assist with donor segmentation and targeted outreach.
• Support donor stewardship, including acknowledgments and thank-you letters.
• Coordinate logistics for fundraising events and donor recognition activities.
• Assist in drafting fundraising materials and donor communications.
• Research funding opportunities and maintain grant submission calendar.
• Help prepare grant proposals and related documentation.
• Provide administrative support including scheduling and briefing preparation
• Help coordinate and provide support for AI Justice’s fundraising and community events. Including events that may take place either after regular office hours and/or on weekends/holidays.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in donor management systems (e.g., EveryAction, Salesforce, Raiser's Edge).
• Strong data entry and reporting skills.
• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
• Experience in donor stewardship and fundraising campaigns.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• The ideal candidate for this position will be friendly, empathetic, and responsible.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values giving and receiving feedback.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 required.
• Familiarity with email marketing and design tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva).
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must have own transportation.
• Must be willing to submit to an extensive background check, including FBI, statewide repository, and sex offender registry checks.

Education: BA in public administration, nonprofit management, communications, marketing or related disciplines

Location: Candidate must be based in South Florida. Position eligible for work from home, hybrid, or in-office designation in accordance with AI Justice Job Classification Policy.

Salary & Benefits:

• Salary commensurate with experience. Salary is exactly $55,000.
• AI Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package, including excellent health, vision, dental, and life insurance coverage; 15 paid days of vacation leave; 13 paid holidays; 10 paid health days; 1 personal day. After one year of employment, staff are entitled to paid parental leave and up to 3% matching employer contribution to 403(b) retirement plan. Vacation and health leave increases after two- and five-year anniversaries. Paid sabbatical available at five years.
