    Job Position Description:

    Are you a compassionate leader ready to shape the earliest years of a child's life? We're seeking someone to fill the position of Director of Head Start. The Director of Head Start is responsible for the overall leadership, management and supervision of Community Action's Head Start and Early Head Start programs and related services. Responsibilities include program planning and implementation; preparation and management of program grants; budget development and monitoring; hiring and supervising personnel. Hiring range for position is from $95,472 - $105,019 a year depending on qualifications.

    Abbreviated Duties List:

    • Initiate and coordinate planning, development and implementation of Head Start and Early Head Start program services in a holistic manner that responds to emerging community needs and consider innovation and best practices in collaboration with staff.
    • Hire and supervise top management staff in the department in a manner that empowers, builds trust, and results in highly effective teamwork.
    • Ensure completion of required annual grant planning, developing, contracting, and reporting; maintain compliance with all Head Start Performance Standards as well as other applicable laws and regulations.
    • Participate in state, regional, and/or national Head Start organization meetings and conferences to stay current with best practices; track relevant local, state, and national initiatives and develop responses that meet the needs of clients and programs.
    • Develop and manage program budgets to ensure effective and efficient staffing plans for all components and attainment of financial and program goals.

    Abbreviated Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of highly responsible management experience. At least three (3) years of Head Start management and leadership experience including administering and monitoring Head Start programs. Proof of degree required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively engage managers, supervisors, and line staff across multiple sites is required.
    • Proven program planning, implementation, and management experience, including the ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously.
    • Experience and skills effectively developing, managing, and monitoring a large and complex budget that incorporates a variety of governmental funding sources and regulations.
    • Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
    • Completion of appropriate Fit for Duty and TB Testing according to Head Start regulations prior to date of hire.

    What Will Make You Stand Out:

    • Master of Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field.
    • High level of proficiency in Child Plus software and Head Start Enterprise System.
