    Director of Government Affairs

    Communications

    The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers, seeks a full-time Director of Government Affairs to join its Communications team. This position will report to the Vice President for Communications.

    The Director of Government Affairs will be responsible for creating an outreach plan to advise Carnegie scholars on bipartisan engagement with legislative and executive branch officials. Responsibilities will include developing and leading a bipartisan engagement strategy to share Carnegie's research and scholars' expertise; working internally to understand existing scholarship and identifying opportunities for enhanced engagement; building and maintaining relationships with government officials including members of congress and staff; identifying opportunities for and advising scholars on congressional testimony and best practices for outreach; creating new approaches to disseminating Carnegie research to government audiences; managing proactive events, briefings, and travel with government officials; advising Carnegie's leadership on legislative and executive branch outreach strategies; and understanding and helping implement the organization's compliance with all relevant lobbying laws and regulations.

    The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in a related field; a master's degree is preferred. The position requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field preferably related to foreign affairs. The selected candidate will have a proven track record of developing and implementing successful legislative and government outreach strategies; strong understanding of the legislative process, including deep experience on or with Capitol Hill; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a developed network of relevant contacts; and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the political spectrum.

    The approximate salary range for this position is $115,000 to $140,000, depending on experience. Located in Dupont Circle in Washington, DC, we offer an outstanding benefits package. This is not a virtual position. Carnegie employees are required to work in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and generally can work from home Mondays and Fridays.
