    Description

    The newly created Writer, Strategic Fundraising Communications position collaborates with WBUR fundraising and editorial teams to develop compelling written materials that drive donor engagement. The Writer will create cohesive materials to support WBUR’s strategic priorities, including but not limited to stewardship reporting, cases for philanthropic support, gift acknowledgments, solicitations, fundraising collateral and talking points.

    Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations & Operations, the Writer plays a key role in supporting WBUR’s fundraising efforts. They will be a collaborative, strategic, motivated and deadline-oriented team member who can translate institutional priorities to inspire philanthropy and engagement.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategy (15%)

    • Develop a keen understanding of WBUR and its strategic priorities and articulate it in clear, tailored content for various audiences and communication channels
    • Collaborate with frontline fundraisers and editorial colleagues to translate editorial projects into engaging donor narratives
    • Identify opportunities for storytelling to share impact and translate initiatives into compelling cases for support

    Writing (75%)

    • Research, write, and edit compelling impact reports (5-6 per year) that articulate the case for philanthropy at WBUR
    • Write and project manage organizational annual report
    • Write persuasive individual gift proposals for prospective donors, highlighting the need for and impact of gifts, focusing on six- and seven-figure levels
    • Support fundraising campaigns with direct mail appeals, email solicitations, gift acknowledgments and on-air scripts for membership gifts and major gifts
    • Draft executive communications tailored to WBUR leadership voices to engage a variety of audiences
    • Prepare communications materials for select prospect events and leadership projects

    Project Management (10%)

    • Manage multiple communications projects working with internal and external partners, including research, edits, design, and print
    • Create fundraising messaging guides and develop a robust content library for fundraisers and donor relations

    Qualifications:

    • Excellent editorial judgment
    • Demonstrated ability to translate programmatic concepts to compelling content to maximize philanthropic support and steward donors
    • Creative and persuasive writer with strong grammar, spelling and proofreading skills
    • Demonstrated ability to shift voice and tone based on audience and channel
    • History of building and maintaining strong relationships with diverse stakeholders in a complex organizational setting
    • Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion
