    Position Summary

    The Junior Accountant plays a critical role in the daily operations of the Finance department, focusing on transactional accounting, cash flow management, and operational support. The Junior Accountant is responsible for managing both accounts payable and receivable functions, including but not limited to processing daily donations, ensuring accurate and timely payments, and supporting the corporate credit card reconciliation process. Responsibilities also include cash flow oversight of designated accounts, contributing to monthly close, audit preparation, and compliance reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to maintaining accurate and timely financial reports in support of the Foundation’s mission.

    Responsibilities

    • Review, code, and process approved grant payments and accounts payable invoices in accordance with policy
    • Process daily accounts receivable activity, including donations, service revenue, and miscellaneous receipts
    • Reconcile and monitor corporate credit card usage and ensure compliance with expense reporting policies
    • Prepare monthly and ad hoc journal entries for assigned accounts
    • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and follow up on outstanding variances
    • Assist in the monthly and year-end close processes
    • Support audit and compliance activities by preparing supporting schedules and documentation
    • Work with other departments to clarify and resolve open payment issues
    • Monitor and manage daily cash flow of assigned bank accounts
    • Reconcile select bank accounts on a monthly basis and investigate any discrepancies in a timely manner
    • Track and follow up on outstanding payments due to the Foundation, including fees for service and other receivables
    • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing cash activity to support daily and monthly cash reporting
    • Order and maintain inventory of office supplies
    • Open and distribute incoming mail in coordination with Finance staff
    • Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for the annual audit, 990 filings, and other compliance requirements
    • Ensure financial documentation is accurate, organized, and audit ready
    • Participate in developing and maintaining internal procedures to strengthen controls and improve efficiency
    • Support the Accounting Manager and broader Finance team with special projects as assigned
    • Collaborate across departments to address and resolve payment or donation issues.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
    • 1-3 years’ experience in related role
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
    • High proficiency in Excel, including macros and pivot tables.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively across team.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong computer technology skills, including experience with automated general ledger systems.
    • Strong work ethic and self-motivated individual.
