    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Communications Associate plays a pivotal role in enhancing our fundraising efforts and strengthening program communications including online presence, visitor engagement and printed publications. This position requires a creative and detail-oriented individual, proficient in English and Spanish, with strong graphic design skills who can craft compelling content and manage communications channels.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Communications

    • Create and implement the organization’s general communications strategy, both messaging and design, to engage and broaden audience base and support fundraising efforts.
    • Manage and update the organization’s website, email listserv and social media platforms, ensuring timely and engaging content.
    • Content Creation:
    1. Maintain a robust content resource library for the organization, including participant testimonials, photography and videography that effectively communicate Amigos’ impact.
    2. Transform technical program reports into accessible public communications.
    3. Work closely with program teams and participants to develop community-driven content, innovative campaigns where beneficiaries become authentic storytellers of their own experiences; implement strategies that amplify genuine community voices..
    • Develop annual communications goals, performance indicators, implementation calendar and semi-annual reports.
    • Monitor engagement metrics and provide analytics reports to inform content strategies.
    • Ensure brand consistency by managing the organization’s Communications Toolkit.
    • Provide graphic design support for promotional materials for Amigos programs and social businesses.
    • Translation and editorial support as needed, including quarterly reports to the Board of Directors.

    Fundraising

    • Create and execute communications strategies to support fundraising campaigns, events, and appeals that inspire donor engagement and retention.
    • Develop engaging and compelling visual and written donor-centered content through monthly updates, impact reports, newsletters and other communications materials as needed.
    • Identify opportunities to amplify the organization’s voice through innovative storytelling approaches.
    • Assist in designing and editing fundraising proposals, grant reports, presentations, and other documents as needed, both for general fundraising and for the capital campaign.

    Visitor Engagement Support

    • Provide tours and presentations to donors and visitors as needed.
    • Oversee ‘visitor experience’ in the office and center (including wall displays, visitor sign-up and other aspects of visitor tours).
    • Occasional support to café and store staff for promotion of visitor and group offerings (tours, visitor classes, etc.).
    • Management of general inquiries.

    Institutional Mentorship & Innovation:

    • Participate in mentorship programs to help identify and develop local talent.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development for local program participants and staff through structured training materials and support.
    • Analyze and provide support to institutional redesigns of communication workflows to improve efficiency.

    SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Commitment to the mission and vision of Amigos de Santa Cruz and the power of education to end the cycle of poverty in rural Guatemala.
    • University degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field.
    • 2+ years of experience in communications, preferably in non-profits or social impact organizations with community-based programs.
    • Ability to create engaging and dynamic photo and video content, experience in videography and photography desirable.
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English and Spanish.
    • Strong proficiency in social media management tools, email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact, Microsoft Office Suite, and graphic design software including InDesign, Photoshop and Canva.
    • Experience in fundraising communications and donor engagement. Familiarity with donor relations software such as Constant Contact, Little Green Light, MailChimp, Stripe, etc. a plus.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Knowledge of indigenous cultures and community development. Experience living and working in Guatemala is a plus.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to interact in both Spanish and English with a wide range of actors including local staff, program participants, visitors, donors and board members.
