    Position Overview

    EmpowerK12 seeks an exceptional Program Manager to lead our DC Math Hub initiative, a transformative program designed to elevate mathematics education across Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will be a former mathematics educator who is detail-oriented, with deep instructional experience, and passionate about ensuring all students develop the mathematical skills essential for college and career success. The DC Math Hub Program Manager will orchestrate high-impact initiatives that bring together educators, students, community stakeholders, and nonprofit partners to strengthen DC's math education ecosystem. This position demands someone who combines educational expertise with exceptional project management skills and an unwavering commitment to educational equity. This position is based in DC and will require being based in the DC area.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Leadership & Strategy

    • Lead the planning and implementation of the DC Math Hub initiative
    • Lead internal and external meetings with grantees and other stakeholders
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including DCPS, DC public charter schools, OSSE, community organizations, education partners, and funders
    • Monitor program outcomes and work with stakeholders to adjust strategies and maximize impact on student achievement
    • Manage DC Math Hub initiative communications and social media (i.e., website, monthly newsletter, social media, and event communications)

    Event & Program Management

    • Plan and execute an annual citywide mathematics summit for 300+ educators
      • Recruit and coordinate national researchers and thought leaders as keynote speakers
      • Identify and support DC teachers with a track record of high student growth to lead professional development sessions
      • Develop summit content that translates research into actionable classroom practices
      • Plan, coordinate, and execute operational components to allow for a successful in-person event
    • Design and implement the first citywide mathematics competition for elementary, middle, and high school students
      • Build participation across DCPS and DC public charter schools with focus on inclusive participation
      • Manage competition logistics, judging, awards, and celebration events
      • Create pathways for competition participants to continue mathematical engagement
    • Facilitate a selective fellowship of DC's highest-growth mathematics teachers, DC Math Fellows
      • Coordinate monthly observations of Math Fellows’ classrooms
      • Design, plan and execute professional learning opportunities (e.g. leading sessions, finding experts, coordinating sharing sessions led by Fellows)
      • Support Math Fellows in developing and implementing advocacy strategies along with leadership skills to serve as math education ambassadors for the city
    • Support with monitoring the progress of charter schools that received math Acceleration subgrants from EmpowerK12
    • Create systems for sharing best practices and scaling effective teaching strategies across the district
    • Create and maintain detailed project timelines, tracking systems, and reporting mechanisms
    • Prepare regular reports for leadership, funders, and other stakeholders on program progress and impact

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years of successful mathematics teaching experience in grades K-12, with demonstrated student achievement gains
    • Proven experience managing and executing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with tight deadlines and meticulous attention to detail
    • Self-directed, self-starter with a willingness to own high-priority tasks and projects with minimal guidance and support
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including public speaking, presentation skills, and the presence necessary to effectively interact with senior level stakeholders
    • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and collaborate with diverse stakeholders and the ability to succinctly communicate sophisticated ideas to important stakeholders with diverse views and priorities
    • Genuine passion for improving mathematics education and closing achievement gaps; Deep understanding of educational equity issues and experience working with students from priority populations, including economically disadvantaged students

    The salary range for this position is $80,000-95,000. Placement within this range is determined by a variety of factors, including knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, certifications, and equity with internal team members.
