    Position Summary

    VMHS Facilitators play a substantial role in NOMV’s Veterinary Mental Health Support (VMHS) program by providing psychoeducational and supportive group sessions for veterinarians and veterinary professionals. Facilitators help create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space that promotes emotional wellbeing and professional sustainability.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Facilitate group psychoeducational sessions (virtual format).
    • Provide practical and emotional support as well as relevant resources to participants in accordance with VMHS practices.
    • Maintain participant confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in mental health practice.
    • Understand and be able to navigate limits of confidentiality in a support (non-therapy) setting.
    • Participate in regular and timely case consultation, training, and professional development provided by VMHS Director.
    • Collaborate with the VMHS Director to support program effectiveness and quality of care.
    • Contribute to internal communication and feedback loops to support ongoing program development.

    Required Qualifications

    • A Master's or Doctoral degree in a mental health field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy).
    • Active licensure or registration to provide clinical services in the applicant’s state of residence.
    • Demonstrated experience facilitating support groups.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Comfortable working remotely and using Zoom.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience supporting veterinary professionals and / or those in high-stress, caregiving professions.
    • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
    • Experience in psychoeducation, especially around practical and emotional wellbeing, evidence-based coping skills, and peer support.
    • Background in veterinary medicine (e.g., DVM or RVT) with a mental health degree also welcomed.

    Core Competencies

    • Understanding of veterinary culture, mental health challenges in the profession, and the importance of psychological safety.
    • Proficiency in gold-standard mental health practices, including emotional regulation, grounding skills, and crisis intervention.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of facilitation.
