    Nonprofit Fundraising Executive Director Position Summary

    The Vascular Birthmarks Foundation (VBF) is the world's leading charitable organization providing support and resources to individuals and families living with a vascular birthmark, anomaly and/or related syndrome (VBARS). The foundation is hiring a Nonprofit Fundraising Executive Director who is experienced, motivated, and eager to lead a thriving international health-related educational organization.

    The Nonprofit Fundraising Executive Director is the key management leader responsible for overseeing the organization's administration, programs, and strategic plan . Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, advocacy, and community outreach. The ability to navigate a health-related mission is vital. This role will work closely with the current Executive Director, who will move into the consulting role of Founder and Advocacy Director. The position reports to the Board of Directors. This is a full-time remote position with periodic national and international travel required. New York State residents preferred but not required. Beginning salary is $100,000 with re-evaluation at 6 months.

    General Responsibilities

    1) Board Governance: Works with the Board to fulfill the foundation’s mission. Responsible for:

    • leading the Board in a manner that supports and guides the foundation’s mission
    • communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions

    2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the foundation. Working knowledge of NYS non-profit laws required. Responsible for:

    • fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support VBF’s mission
    • the fiscal integrity of VBF, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the foundation and with a focus on sustainability
    • the fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the foundation in a positive financial position

    3) Foundation Mission and Strategy: Works with Board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach. Responsible for:

    • implementation of VBF’s programs that carry out the foundation’s mission
    • strategic planning to ensure that VBF can successfully fulfill its mission into the future
    • the enhancement of VBF’s image by being active and visible in the international community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private individuals and organizations

    4) Foundation Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the foundation are appropriate. Responsible for:

    • the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff
    • effective administration of VBF’s operations

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, and to increase the overall visibility of the foundation
    • Supervise and collaborate with foundation’s staff
    • Serve as VBF’s primary spokesperson to the foundation’s constituents, the media, and the general public
    • Establish and maintain relationships with various individuals and organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance VBF’s mission
    • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts
    • Oversee Board, committee, and staff meetings
    • Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the foundation
    • Review and approve contracts for services
    • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

    Professional Qualifications Desired

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher level of education
    • At least 5 years experience as a nonprofit executive suite leader, specifically health-related
    • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors
    • High level strategic thinking and planning
    • Ability to envision and convey the foundation’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors
    • Ability to effectively communicate the foundation’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community
    • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
    • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results
    • Proven fundraising experience
    • Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community
    • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers
    • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation
    • Financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Confident public speaking ability
    • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy
