    Position Overview:

    The Director of Community Schools will play a critical leadership role within IMNYC, overseeing and supporting the success of multiple community school sites. This position is responsible for directly managing four Community School Directors (CSDs), ensuring alignment across programs, compliance with requirements, and continuous improvement in service to students and families. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, highly organized, and passionate about equity and community-driven education.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Management & Leadership

    • Provide 1-on-1 management support and coaching to four Community School Directors, fostering leadership development and high performance.
    • Guide CSDs in strategic planning, partnership development, and day-to-day implementation of the community school model.
    • Create systems to build a strong professional learning community among the CSDs and school site teams.

    Organizational Representation

    • Represent IMNYC in meetings with the NYC Department of Education’s Office of Community Schools and other key stakeholders.
    • Serve as a liaison between IMNYC and school-based leadership to ensure alignment of goals, expectations, and communication.

    Budget & Compliance Oversight

    • Support CSDs with developing, managing, and monitoring school budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with program priorities.
    • Ensure compliance with all local, city, and state regulations, funding requirements, and reporting mandates for community schools.
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation and accountability measures for each site.

    Data & Reporting

    • Develop and implement systems to track data across all sites, monitoring performance, measuring impact, and informing strategy.
    • Lead the creation of internal and external reports to communicate outcomes, challenges, and successes.

    Culture & Community Building

    • Foster a culture of collaboration, shared learning, and mutual support across community school teams.
    • Create and lead initiatives to strengthen relationships and engagement among staff, students, families, and community partners.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in education, youth development, nonprofit leadership, or related field.
    • Proven experience managing teams and/or school-based staff.
    • Deep understanding of the community school strategy and New York City public school landscape.
    • Strong financial management skills, including budget development and oversight.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
    • Experience using data to inform practice and decision-making.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, public administration, social work, or related field preferred.
