    About Us: The Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights, NMCIR’s, mission is to educate, defend, and protect the rights of immigrants. As the longest-serving organization providing immigration-related services in Northern Manhattan and the Bronx, we continue to offer culturally competent legal-services, Manhattan’s worker Center and adult literacy classes that directly advance our vibrant immigrant communities.

    In addition to direct services, we advocate for systemic change through policy work and community organizing. Our mission is grounded in a healing-centered, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safe and supportive interactions to foster resilience, dignity, and trust.

    Position Overview

    NMCIR is seeking a mission-driven, creative, and culturally fluent Part-Time Communications Manager to shape and amplify our story across digital and community platforms. With a deep knowledge of NYC’s community, you’ll play a key role in strengthening our brand, expanding our digital reach, humanizing our community, highlighting our work all while reflecting the voice, values, and lived experiences of the immigrant communities we serve.

    Key Responsibilities

    Email & Newsletter Management

    • Draft, design, and send monthly newsletters and campaign updates in both English and Spanish
    • Grow, maintain and segment email lists for targeted and accessible outreach

    Social Media Strategy & Execution

    • Develop and calendar yearly cross-platform social media content
    • Manage and grow our presence on multiple social media platforms with engaging, multilingual content
    • Support the Executive Director’s professional presence online by drafting and scheduling Linkedin posts
    • Monitor performance and audience engagement to inform strategy

    Fundraising Communications

    • Design and write digital materials for fundraising campaigns, including Giving Tuesday and year-end appeals
    • Develop branded visuals and donor messaging that reflect our values and community voice

    Branding & Visual Consistency

    • Ensure that all flyers, social media posts, presentations, and public-facing materials are on-brand, accessible, and community-centered
    • Work closely with staff to translate programs and advocacy work into compelling visual content

    News Monitoring & Crisis Communications

    • Stay up to date on immigration news and policy, especially through Spanish-language media
    • Draft timely, culturally responsive content in moments of crisis, urgency, or opportunity
    • Support rapid-response communications, including community alerts, press releases, and calls to action
    • Translate relevant developments into accessible, community-facing materials

    Light Website Management

    • Keep website updated with current events, campaigns, and news (training provided if needed)

    Required Qualifications

    • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken)
    • Deep knowledge of NYC’s Communities & Cultures
    • Deep cultural fluency and alignment with immigrant rights, racial justice, and grassroots organizing
    • 2+ years experience in communications, digital marketing, or nonprofit storytelling
    • Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to translate complex issues into clear, heartfelt messages
    • Strong visual design skills using tools like Canva (Adobe a plus)
    • Proficient in social media platforms and email tools
    • Demonstrated habit of tracking immigration policy, news, and Spanish-language media

    Bonus Skills (Not Required)

    • Knowledge of additional languages
    • Basic video or audio editing
    • Experience in organizing, advocacy, or community-based/advocacy communications

    Work Environment

    This role follows a remote work model, with 1-3 hours a day WFH and in-person as-needed
