VMP Lead (Sales & General) Associate

REPORTS TO: CSU Co-Executive Directors

POSITION A V AILABLE: The Village Market Place is hiring for a Lead Sales and Operations Associate to

assist with store leadership and daily operations. This is currently a part-time position with the potential for growth.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: Is outgoing, personable, and committed to excellent customer service. Possesses prior retail, grocery, delivery, and/or restaurant experience, with leadership or keyholder experience strongly preferred. Cares deeply about bringing high-quality and healthy food options to South Central Los Angeles. Demonstrates leadership potential and an interest in growing with the Village Market Place. Takes direction and feedback with positivity. Spends time learning existing systems and procedures. As the VMP grows, successful hires may have opportunities to advance into higher leadership roles.

DESCRIPTION: In addition to performing all duties of a Sales and General Associate, the Lead Associate is responsible for store opening and closing procedures, assisting with supervision of staff on shift, and supporting store operations. Ideal candidates are committed to CSU's mission, to the ongoing success of the social enterprise, upholding store standards, promoting a positive work environment, and ensuring that exceptional customer service and operational excellence are maintained.

• Minimum 1 year experience in retail, grocery, café, and/or similar customer-facing role.
• Prior experience with opening/closing duties, or keyholding strongly preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse customer base and team.
• Organized, dependable, and able to work independently.
• Problem-solving abilities; calm under pressure.
• Basic command of computer applications and wireless devices.
• Bi-lingual Spanish (or willingness to learn) highly preferred.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and move heavy items around the store/café/kitchen.
• Willingness to be trained and to perform duties with rigor and diligence.
• Interest in food justice, food systems, and health/environmental issues and willingness to learn more.
• Valid driver's license, highly preferred.
