    Human Resources & Ethics Coordinator

    Location: Hybrid schedule in EDF’s New York, Washington, D.C., Austin, or San Francisco office

    Duration: Fixed-term position through September 2026 with full benefits and opportunity for extension

    Overall Function

    We are seeking a detail-oriented and ethical professional to join our team as an HR & Ethics Coordinator. The HR and Ethics Coordinator will support the promotion, monitoring and updating of the organization’s ethical standards and policies. In addition, this position will deliver strong HR generalist and administrative service and ensure the smooth running of HR processes. This is a varied and challenging role that requires the ability to prioritize and complete deliverables across various stakeholders and projects, and this position must operate with a high degree of confidentiality. This position sits within the Human Resources department and reports to the Senior Manager, HR Business Partner & Ethics.

    Key Responsibilities

    Ethics

    • Monitor and coordinate responses to the organization’s ethics and whistleblower inbox and track and report ethics and whistleblower data, ensuring confidentiality and proper follow-up
    • Maintain the review schedule for global HR
    • related policies, review policies for accuracy and relevance and ensure appropriate approvals of updates are processed; support maintenance of Policy Hub related to HR policies
    • Review and maintain the U.S. Employee Handbook and assist global HR colleagues with non-U.S. Handbooks and equivalent
    • Remain abreast of U.S. labor laws and regulations (federal and state) that may impact organizational policies and bring them to the attention of the HR business partner team
    • Support investigations into reported ethical concerns in collaboration with relevant HR Business Partner
    • Promote awareness of ethical practices across the organization through communication and engagement activities

    General Human Resources Support

    • Apply knowledge to problem-solve inquiries with independent thinking, acting as a first point of contact and trusted partner for employee inquiries and representing the HR team with a high level of professionalism; route inquiries to appropriate HR colleagues as needed
    • Ensure HR processes support accurate workforce data within our HRIS system; providing data reporting as needed
    • Provide day-to-day operational support to the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) team; collaborate effectively with HRIS team to process and maintain employee changes, identify bottlenecks, recommend improvements, and work collaborative across the HR team to implement process updates and solutions
    • Execute the exit process for departing employees including providing paperwork, scheduling, and conducting exit interviews, and terminating employees in the HRIS system
    • Coordinate and ensure response to employment verification and unemployment claims
    • Research a range of HR-related topics/ projects and assist in the preparation of notes/reports/ presentations
    • Participate in advancing EDF organizational effectiveness and culture goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values
    • Professionally handle confidential information, including administration and personnel information
    • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 3 years administrative support experience; experience in a human resources department strongly preferred
    • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality, with an empathetic and mission-focused approach to problem solving
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and maintain confidentiality and discretion
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with an ability to work effectively and diplomatically across all levels of an organization
    • Superior time management skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, research, and proofreading skills
    • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, geographically dispersed team
    • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in ethics and compliance
    • Experience in a nonprofit or social impact setting
    • Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems preferred (Workday a plus)
    • HR or compliance certifications (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP, Nonprofit HR Certificate, CCEP) desirable but not required
