    The Opportunity:

    The Manager, Finance and Operations plays a pivotal role on our team. This position ensures the financial health, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance of our growing organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a systems thinker and hands-on manager to shape core business functions, steward and evolve operational infrastructure, and contribute to a high-performance culture.

    Role Summary

    The Manager, Finance and Operations will oversee day-to-day financial management and organizational operations, working closely with department teams, external consultants, and the Vice President, Finance and Operations. The candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise and insight, and will coordinate key finance processes—including budgeting, payroll, reconciliation, and reporting—while also optimizing operations across vendor management, contract stewardship, office logistics, and HR support.

    • Experienced professional with at least 4-6 years of relevant experience in finance, operations, and/or nonprofit administration
    • Comfortable working with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Bill.com, and payroll platforms (e.g., Paychex)
    • Skilled in managing vendor relationships and collaborating with external consultants to ensure seamless operations
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines across the organization—including with the senior leadership level
    • Excellent communicator—clear, confident, and effective across written, verbal, and visual formats, including presentations and external reporting
    • Technologically fluent, with proficiency in G-Suite, Salesforce, Asana, Slack, and other workplace tools
    • Detail-oriented, proactive, and solutions-driven, with a collaborative mindset—able to work independently when needed but is equally skilled at building alignment and shared ownership across teams

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Management

    • Manage day-to-day accounting and finance operations, including budget monitoring, monthly reconciliations, and financial reporting
    • Coordinate with external accounting consultants to manage month-end close, annual audits, and tax filings
    • Support payroll processing and the administration of employee benefits
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for audits, grants, and regulatory compliance

    Operations and Administration

    • Manage vendor contracts and relationships with external service providers
    • Coordinate office operations, including supplies, facility services, and system upgrades
    • Support logistical planning for organizational meetings, events, and team-building activities
    • Maintain and optimize key organizational tools and systems, including CRM, project management, and digital filing systems

    Human Resources Support

    • Assist with recruitment processes, onboarding, and performance management activities
    • Support implementation and administration of HR policies, practices, and procedures
    • Help foster a workplace culture that integrates racial equity principles and prioritizes staff care and well-being

    Collaboration and Strategic Support

    • Support the Vice President, Finance and Operations and Senior Management to align internal systems with organizational priorities
    • Contribute to process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and cross-team collaboration
    • Serve as a strategic resource and problem solver across departments, adapting to evolving needs and priorities

    Professional Growth and Development

    • Participate in individual as well as organizational learning opportunities, leadership development, and sector-facing convenings
    • Engage with cross-functional teams to deepen understanding of nonprofit sector trends and challenges
    • Contribute ideas that shape how Nonprofit New York functions as a model for strong, equitable, and values-aligned operations
    • Grow into increasing levels of responsibility and visibility in an environment that values learning, leadership, and initiative

    Skills + Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field. Candidates will be evaluated based on a combination of experience, skills, and qualifications
    • 4-6 years of relevant progressive experience in nonprofit finance and operations
    • Demonstrated experience supporting payroll, benefits, and HR processes
    • Knowledge of nonprofit financial compliance, audit processes, and reporting requirements
    • Proven ability to optimize operational systems and workflows

    Salary

    The salary for this position is $85,000/year.
