    Position Summary

    The Communications Manager will manage the implementation of communications, online engagement, and public outreach for CRi. With strategic direction from the Director of Development & Communications, this position plays a central role in promoting the organization’s brand, driving engagement, complementing the Development Team's work, and maintaining metrics and dashboards for digital communications. The Manager will supervise the Engagement Coordinator, whose primary focus will be social media content creation and audience engagement, and in-house photography and video needs.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Publications & Email Marketing

    Manage production of the Annual Report and monthly newsletter, organizing the drafting, content collection and layout, printing, and distribution. Collaborate with Development Team on how to attract new donors and cultivate existing relationships.

    Create and manage the production of marketing materials including flyers, brochures, presentations, and other documents. Ensure branding and messaging consistency.

    Write engaging blog and email content that aligns with organizational goals and resonates with target audiences. Manage layout and publishing workflows.

    Monitor email campaign performance and adjust strategies to improve results.

    Social Media Management

    Oversee daily operations for all social media channels, mentoring Engagement Coordinator and ensuring all content posted is compelling, portrays CRi’s expertise and brand, and aligns with communications strategy approved by the Director.

    Manage execution of all social media workflows and deadlines according to overall editorial calendar for all CRi platforms.

    Monitor and analyze social media metrics to refine strategies and improve performance.

    Stay updated on social media trends to ensure innovation aligned with long-term goals and best practices to ensure optimal platform utilization.

    Website Quality Assurance

    Oversee website update workflows to ensure all content is timely, current, and accompanied by visuals that meet organizational branding standards.

    Manage workflows to support weekly blog posts and other content marketing aligned with communications strategies to increase visibility of CRi website.

    Optimize and track website presence, maintaining metrics dashboards.

    Assist Director in managing external website contractors, serving as primary contact for assigned design, application installation, and upgrade prospects.

    Community Outreach

    Collaborate with Volunteer Program Manager to raise awareness about CRi at community events, ensuring presence optimizes volunteer recruitment opportunities.

    Organize contents of CRi tables and exhibits at community events, from securing space to producing to shipping all display materials.

    Capture new subscribers for CRi’s newsletter and other communications onsite.

    Writing, Editing, & Distribution Support

    Assist Director with media relations efforts by drafting assigned press releases. Manage building and maintenance of press release distribution lists for Director’s press outreach.

    Copy edit and proofread donor, and other communications and materials, as assigned.

    Qualifications

    4+ years of experience managing diverse communications needs of nonprofit, including managing organizational publication production, websites and social media.

    A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, English, or related field.

    Experience with engagement automation platforms, preferably with Hubspot.

    Information design skills and proficiency with Canva or other graphic creation software. Adobe Creative Suite desired but not required.

    The ability to collaborate with the Development Team and throughout the organization on projects and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

    Strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to incorporate established key messages.

    Prior experience supervising direct reports.

    Physical Demands

    Typical office/administrative environment and physical demands.

    Working Environment

    Hybrid Office environment.

    Travel within Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia
