    Description

    CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

    This is an in-person position in Portland, OR. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for overseeing Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI)’s financial strategy, operations, and sustainability. SEI receives a large number of contracts from government sources with stringent compliance requirements. The CFO will ensure sound fiscal management to support SEI’s mission and strategic goals. This role requires a leader who can balance strategic vision with operational execution, working collaboratively to advance our impact on the community. It is extremely important that the CFO has a high level of interpersonal skill, curiosity about programming and people, with a high emphasis on relationship building as well as the ability to explain complex finance and accounting concepts in ways that resonates with all internal and external stakeholders.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Financial Strategy & Leadership

    • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and leadership team on financial planning and analysis.
    • Lead the preparation and presentation of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.

    Budgeting & Forecasting

    • Oversee the development and management of the organization’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with programmatic priorities.
    • Provide accurate financial forecasting to guide organizational planning and decision-making.
    • Monitor financial performance against budget and recommend corrective actions as needed.

    Financial Operations & Compliance

    • Support the Director of Finance in all aspects of financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Oversee annual audits and ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax filings.
    • Provide expertise and guidance to employees at all levels of SEI to stay in compliance with 2 CFR 200 – Uniform Administrative Requirements.
    • Manage and update accounting policies and procedures.

    Resource Development & Grants Management

    • Partner with the development team to support fundraising strategies and ensure effective management of donor funds.
    • Provide financial oversight for grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with funding requirements.
    • Collaborate with program leaders to ensure financial accountability for grant-funded initiatives.

    Human Resources

    • Support the Director of Human Resources to continuously update SEI’s compensation policy, pay structure, and recommendations for annual merit increases (RAVE) with strong communication with senior leadership about financial impact and recommendations.
    • Support the Human Resources team to ensure fair employment practices and compliance with all federal, state, and local HR related rules and regulations and EEOC compliance are maintained.
    • Participate in annual benefits review with external stakeholders and support the Human Resources team with internal communications.

    Team Leadership & Development

    • Lead and mentor the Director of Finance and Director of Human Resources, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional growth.
    • Work cross-functionally with program and administrative teams to align financial practices with organizational goals.
    • Foster a supportive environment where team members can freely communicate and staff from all levels of the organization feel comfortable asking questions and receive guidance for best-in-class programming and professional development.

    Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in a related field or higher, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
    • Minimum three (3) years' experience leading the Finance function in an organization with $15 - $60 million in revenue with a high level of Federal, County and Local contract funding.
    • Experience with affordable housing development and financing preferred.
    • Minimum five (5) years' experience in social services working with diverse populations.
    • Must have the ability to design and coordinate comprehensive work plans.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word and other appropriate software tools.
    • Must have excellent communication skills to include group presentations, one-on-one interaction and public speaking.
    • Must have excellent writing skills to include punctuation and grammar. Technical writing skills a plus.
    • Must be highly organized and a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
    • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups of people.
    • Must possess a professional and positive work attitude and ability to successfully create a healthy team environment.
    • Ability to use personal initiative and cooperation in performing job duties.
    • Must have current and valid state driver's license, in good standing with no insurability restrictions and must be insurable under SEl's auto insurance policy.
