    Junior Accountant

    Position Summary

    The Junior Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. Working under the limited supervision of the Senior Accountant, this role is responsible for processing and maintaining key bookkeeping functions such as cash receipts, accounts payable, and data entry into accounting systems. The Junior Accountant will handle various revenue-related transactions (excluding donations and contributions), support monthly closings, and serve as a backup for payroll processing and other accounting duties as needed.

    This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial records in alignment with GSGNY policies and procedures. The Junior Accountant will also collaborate across departments, provide financial customer service to staff and volunteers, and assist in audit preparation.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare, process and maintain the following bookkeeping functions and accounts with limited supervision by the Senior Accountant:
      • Cash Receipts
      • Accounts Payable
    • Process checks and money orders for membership, training, fee based programs and camp (no donations or contributions).
    • Distribute copies of all cash receipts to Development, Membership and Program departments as appropriate.
    • Go to bank with any checks/cash received as needed.
    • Enter Data monthly into ABILA Cash Receipts.
    • Enter receivables for pledges, membership dues, program fees and cookies.
    • Enter weekly Accounts Payable.
    • Enter weekly ACH Payments.
    • Print Accounts Payable checks as needed.
    • Assist in month-end close process.
    • Back-up to Payroll if the Senior Accountant is not available.
    • Apply knowledge of GSGNY policies and procedures to assist the Senior Accountant in facilitating a smooth day-to-day workflow in the Finance Department. Serve as backup to the Senior Accountant in her absence.
    • Research and prepare financial schedules and analyses, as assigned by the Senior Accountant.
    • Reconcile donations and contributions with the Development department.
    • Help maintain GSGNY's financial records and files.
    • Utilize GSGNY’s computer system for maximum efficiency in the processing and preparation of financial data and reports.
    • Maintain a strict code of confidentiality in all appropriate matters.
    • Provide customer service to staff and volunteers in financial matters.
    • Assist Finance in preparing for annual audit.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • 2+ years experience in a similar position preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of accounting. Accounting Degree preferred.
    • Knowledge of A/P, Cash Receipts and payroll processing.
    • Proficiency with SAGE MIPS, Raiser’s Edge and MS Excel.
    • Familiarity with the MS Office Suite including MS Word and Outlook.
    • Excellent mathematical and organizational skills.
    • Ability to budget time and perform tasks in a timely manner.
    • Ability to work with and assist others.
    • Good customer service skills.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $50,000 - $55,000 annual salary depending on experience.
