    The Charlestown Resident Alliance (CRA) is a §501(c)(3) non-profit organization that represents the residents of Bunker Hill Public Housing in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, MA. The CRA works closely with community members to address the needs of our children and families, and to improve their quality of life through the implementation of support programs and services.

    Job type and location

    Full-time. Some work can be done remotely but most will be in CRA’s office at 76 Monument Street, Charlestown.

    About Bunker Hill Public Housing and the Charlestown Resident Alliance

    Built in 1940, the Bunker Hill Public Housing property is New England’s largest family public housing property, strategically located within a half mile of the Bunker Hill Monument. The area has been undergoing rapid gentrification even as the Bunker Hill property has long need substantial renovation.

    Now it is being redeveloped: Over the next 6-10 years, all the current buildings will come down and brand-new apartments will rise in their place: 2,699 total, of which 1,000 will be affordable reserved for public-housing-eligible (PHE) tenants, and 1,699 market. The first building, now known as Stellata, has been completed and occupied. Overall this transaction, with a projected total development cost of over $1.5 billion, is already being recognized as a landmark in multiple ways, including the important role the CRA has played in helping shape the vision for the new property.

    The Office Manager’s role

    The Office Manager will provide crucial administrative support to the CRA board and staff as well as the residents of the Bunker Hill public housing project as it undergoes a complete redevelopment. Throughout the redevelopment process, this person will assist with the management and coordination of office operations and activities to support the organization.

    We are looking for a flexible and driven individual who wants to work with a committed team and board members to assist the residents of the Bunker Hill Public Housing development. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, is proactive, reliable, and detail-oriented and is committed to the CRA’s mission to advocate for fair, equal, healthy, and affordable housing opportunities in Charlestown.

    This position reports to the CRA’s Executive Director.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Receives, relays, and responds to emails, calls, and messages from CRA Board members, partner organizations and Board consultants in a timely manner.
    2. Schedules and coordinates both internal and external meetings with the CRA Board.
    3. Assists the Board with the administrative aspects of decision-making processes, taking notes as required, and ensures residents’ interests are represented and heard.
    4. Ensures that regular and one-off bills are paid when authorized, and expenditures are tracked.
    5. Takes inventory and as requested by the Board, purchase office supplies and supplies for events.
    6. Tracks Board meeting attendance and updates the monthly stipend tracker.
    7. Provides IT support related to business operations
    8. Works with legal and fiscal consultants to ensure the organization’s compliance with Massachusetts State non-profit, IRS filings, and relevant BHA financial regulations.
    9. Attends meetings and trainings as requested.
    10. Participates in activities as directed by the CRA Board or designated executive.

    Requirements

    1. High School graduate (or GED); additional qualifications as an office manager are a plus.
    2. A minimum of one (1) year experience working in an office environment, preferably non-profit or with or for low-income tenants.
    3. Occasional availability on nights and weekends with advance notice.
    4. Must maintain strict confidentiality on all matters identified as confidential by the Board.
    5. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
    6. Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
    7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    8. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
    9. Bilingual a plus (particularly Spanish, but also Chinese, Somali, Vietnamese).
    10. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, to complete all tasks as directed by the Board, and to maintain high professional and ethical standards at all times.
    11. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.

    Additional details

    1. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
