    The Role

    Tides Center offers fiscal sponsorship to more than 130 partner projects of varying sizes including resources that provide operational efficiencies, cost savings, and compliance support, along with connections to our network of leaders. Tides brings deep expertise in nonprofit management and social justice to support our fiscally sponsored partners in amplifying their impact.

    Tides Center is seeking a Senior HR Business Partner to join us in providing exceptional client service and mitigate partner risk, supporting a portfolio of 25-30 partner projects. Working as part of a cross-functional service team, this role will provide HR advisory services to nonprofit partners who work in a variety of social justice focus areas.

    What you will Do

    Senior HR Business Partners provide support and guidance to partner projects, ensuring that objectives are met, and that those objectives reflect Tides’ mission and comply with Tides’ policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include onboarding, employee and management development, coaching, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, and general policies and procedures.

    Senior HR Business Partners are expected to uplift and embody Tides JEDI (Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion) principles as well the organization’s core values of future focus, accountability, transparency, respect, and collaboration in all aspects of their work.

    Employee Relations (40%)

    • Effectively address questions and resolve employee issues using good judgment, applicable policies, HR best practices, and conflict resolution strategies
    • Interpret, develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
    • Advise on performance management, including annual reviews and performance counseling, performance improvement plans and related disciplinary actions.
    • Conduct investigations in alignment with Tides investigation protocols; interview relevant parties and generate investigative reports with findings and recommendations.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, as well as federal, state and local regulations

    HR Strategic Advising (35%)

    • Serve as a trusted coach and thought partner to project leaders and employees across multiple organizations.
    • In partnership with the Senior Director, People for Tides Center, support development of new or enhanced offerings that build partners’ capacity, enhance impact, and advance social justice.
    • Resolve or escalate issues raised by partners or internal stakeholders in a timely and proactive manner.
    • Facilitate smooth partner transitions as partners come to and leave Tides, ensuring effective People services throughout the process.
    • Contribute content to the monthly Digest based on subject matter expertise.
    • Support the development and implementation of partner feedback, evaluation and tracking systems to measure and report on partners’ impact.
    • Provide consultation on compensation and benefits practices.

    Personnel Management (15%)

    • Manage a variety of functions including onboarding, offboarding, wage and hour compliance and independent contractor review.
    • Review and approve job descriptions to ensure clarity and compliance with FLSA exemptions and organizational policies.
    • Approve requests such as hires, terminations, bonus pay and employment changes.

    Other Duties (10%)

    • Provide People Team representation on cross-departmental initiatives such as assessments, pilots, and other cross-functional team projects to advance departmental and organizational goals.
    • Manage special ad-hoc projects related to TC People functions, such as but not limited to system updates, updating policies and procedures, developing training curriculum and staffing committees.
    • Other duties, as assigned.

    • Demonstrated track record of effectively advising and coaching people leaders and employees on a wide range of complex HR matters.
    • Comfort and capability collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide high-quality service and work toward solutions that generally benefit all parties in alignment with strategic goals.
    • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic and evolving workplace working environment.
    • Strong project-management and organizational skills to balance competing demands and address conflicting needs of a multi-client constituency with tact, diplomacy and kindness.
    • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively on challenging employment matters.
    • Demonstrated ability to hold information confidential with excellent judgment.
    • Excellent communication skills that demonstrate integrity, empathy, curiosity and transparency; Ability to coach, influence, and partner with various levels of employees.
    • Strong analytical, investigatory and research skills.

    Ideal Experience

    • 6 years progressive or direct experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree in human resources or organizational development; or 8 years of relevant experience, managing all facets of Human Resources
    • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or other related field, preferred
    • PHR/SPHR certification, preferred
    • 5+ years experience in the social/nonprofit sector, preferred
    • Experience managing client relationship, while delivering HR services and balancing compliance and client needs
    • Experience as a Human Resources Business Partner within a complex matrixed organization

    Tides is committed to providing a competitive compensation package. We value pay equity and account for factors such as your location within the U.S., your skills and your relevant experience, and we will not ask for your salary history.

    Your starting salary will fall into this range:

    • $95,300 - $119,100 (Most of the United States)
    • $103,900 - $129,900 (Boston, Chicago, Lo ANgeles, Washington D.C. metro areas)
    • $114,400 - $143,000 (New York City & San Francisco metro areas)
