    Description

    The Manager, Education and Leadership Development is responsible for overseeing and advancing National PTA’s education and leadership training strategy. This position leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of scalable training and leadership development initiatives for PTA volunteers and leaders nationwide. The Manager plays a key role in aligning volunteer development efforts with National PTA’s strategic goals, driving innovation in adult learning, and strengthening the association’s leadership pipeline.

    The Manager works cross-functionally with internal departments and in collaboration with national, state, and local PTA leaders to ensure cohesive, inclusive, and high-impact training experiences that build capacity at all levels of the association.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Strategic Leadership:
    • Lead the design and execution of a long-term strategy for leadership development across the association, with a focus on inclusive, scalable, and innovative learning solutions.
    • Learning Management System Oversight:
    • Serve as the strategic lead for the Association’s Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring ongoing content updates, usability improvements, and data analysis to enhance learner engagement and outcomes.
    • Volunteer Training Programs:
    • Manage the full training lifecycle for key programs (e.g., National Representative Program), including content development, presenter coaching, logistics planning, and post-event evaluation.
    • Digital Community Engagement:
    • Oversee the strategy and activity in PTA’s local leader online communities, using insights and data to identify training needs and foster peer learning.
    • Content Development:
    • Lead the creation of learning materials, toolkits, infographics, and multimedia content for in-person, virtual, and hybrid learning experiences.
    • Partnership & Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with Communications, Programs, and Membership teams to align messaging, promote training tools, and support member engagement strategies.
    • Convention & Events Leadership:
    • Oversee the convention workshop development process in partnership with the Convention Committee, including selection, speaker coaching, scheduling, and evaluation.
    • Youth Initiatives: Manage the National PTA Youth Council and other youth-focused leadership initiatives, supporting student voice, leadership development, and meaningful youth-adult partnership.
    • Data-Driven Insights:
    • Analyze learning and engagement data from surveys, events, and feedback tools to inform future training direction and continuously improve program effectiveness.
    • DEI Integration:
    • Ensure all leadership development strategies and training materials reflect National PTA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitments.
    • Committee Support & Volunteer Engagement:
    • Serve as liaison to relevant volunteer committees and task forces, providing strategic input and administrative support.
    • Reporting & Evaluation:
    • Provide regular updates, dashboards, and written reports to leadership on progress toward departmental goals and training impact.
    • Additional Duties:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Leadership Development.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Learning, Nonprofit Leadership, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit, education, training, or volunteer management, with a focus on leadership development or professional learning.
    • Proven experience managing learning systems and implementing training strategies for adult learners.
    • Experience supervising projects or leading cross-functional teams strongly preferred.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & QUALIFICATIONS

    • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
    • Deep understanding of adult learning principles and volunteer leadership development.
    • Excellent communication, facilitation, and writing skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead inclusively and embed DEI practices in educational design and delivery.
    • Highly collaborative and proactive; comfortable working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
    • Technologically proficient in LMS administration, Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and PowerPoint), and virtual collaboration tools.
    • Background in facilitation, instructional design, and/or coaching preferred.
    • Marketing or communications experience is a plus.
    • Knowledge of PTA culture and organizational structure is highly desirable.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Work may be performed remotely or at National PTA Headquarters in Alexandria, VA.
    • Standard hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Eastern Time with flexibility required for evening and weekend events.
    • Occasional domestic travel (≤10%) required.
    • Role may involve lifting and transporting event materials up to 20 lbs.
