    Description

    About the Role:

    The System Improvement Fellow 1 will support youth engagement strategies aimed at preventing and ending youth homelessness. This includes coordinating Florida’s Youth Action Board (YAB) and the local Youth Action Society (YAS), providing logistical and administrative support, creating youth-friendly materials, and ensuring meaningful youth participation in planning efforts. This role is ideal for someone passionate about youth voice, community planning, and continuous improvement in homeless services.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate logistics, communications, and compensation for youth engagement activities.
    • Facilitate regular meetings and support youth in leadership roles.
    • Develop materials and prepare youth participants for meaningful engagement.
    • Provide technical assistance and support for professional development opportunities.
    • Contribute to quality improvement efforts tied to the Brighter Days Community Initiative, YHDP, and YHSI grants.
    • Represent HSN at community events and support the annual Point-in-Time Count.

    Due to the phases involved in YHDP and YHSI projects, the responsibilities within this role may shift based on planning priorities.

    Education and Experience

    • Experience working with or participating in Youth Action Boards, Lived Experience Councils, or participatory planning groups highly preferred.
    • Lived experience with homelessness or housing instability is highly valued and encouraged.

    Ideal Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated interest and passion about HSN’s mission with the ability to promote and communicate HSN’s philosophy, mission and values to all stakeholders.
    • Strong relationship builder and communicator with a customer service focus.
    • Ability to learn, understand and adhere to HUD guidelines, policies and procedures.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, and drive results.
    • Ability to learn best practice models, including: Housing First, Mental Health Recovery, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge of and experience in working with HMIS and other spreadsheets and databases.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to present at gatherings and conferences.
    • Experience leading small and large meetings or workgroups a plus.
    • Familiarity with homelessness, poverty, housing, mental health, recovery and human services.
    • Adequate transportation to and from the workplace.
