    Description

    The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC), based in New York, is an alliance of more than 60 non-profit organizations dedicated to promoting and protecting freedom of thought, inquiry, and expression in the United States.

    NCAC is currently seeking a full time Program Associate to support the activities of its Arts and Culture Advocacy Program (ACAP), the country’s only national initiative exclusively dedicated to defending artistic freedom. ACAP provides direct support to artists, curators, performers, directors, publishers, and cultural institutions that face censorship pressures. It tracks trends and risks of censorship; presents educational events and advocacy campaigns; publishes print and online materials; and develops proactive strategies to promote artistic freedom and open discourse on a systemic level.

    The position is ideal for a candidate with an interest in arts and culture, advocacy, free speech and/or public policy work.

    Qualifications

    • B.A. or equivalent experience preferred
    • Demonstrated interest in free speech advocacy, politics, arts and culture, and/or civil society preferred
    • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply a principled approach to assessing cases
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong research and analytical skills
    • Willingness to take initiative and work independently, creatively, and/or collaboratively as needed in a fast-paced office environment with a small staff
    • Ability to receive constructive criticism and apply it to future assignments
    • Organization: ability to set priorities, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines
    • Previous experience with SalesForce, Canva, word and data processing programs, Google suite is a plus

    Reports to the Director of the Arts & Culture Advocacy Program. This position is full-time. NCAC has adopted a hybrid work schedule.
