    Description

Note on remote location: must reside in CA, MA, NY, PA, or WA

At Summer Search, we believe in 'No Ceilings' and envision a world in which young people, regardless of circumstances, can chart their own destiny. In the United States, students from underserved communities – disproportionately BIPOC and first-generation – face systemic inequities in school, in the workforce, and in life. Nevertheless, these young people possess unique strengths, resilience, and limitless potential.

Since 1990, Summer Search has partnered with young people during their transition from adolescence into adulthood by connecting them to expansive opportunities, professional mentoring, and a community of support. Summer Searchers recognize their potential and build a toolkit to navigate and challenge systemic barriers, break new ground for their families and communities, and achieve economic equity and a life of purpose.

    THE OPPORTUNITY

The Workforce Manager is an exciting new role on the Summer Search National team, created to propel our career readiness programming forward by connecting post-secondary participants—primarily 2–3 years after high school graduation—with Career-Relevant Opportunities (CROs), such as internships, fellowships, and industry specific work experience. These opportunities are designed to help young people explore their professional goals and gain the experience and networks to reach them.

Through the recruitment and placement process for CROs nationwide, the Workforce Manager will act as the primary support for students and liaison with internal corporate and nonprofit partners. They will also explore additional workforce programs, networks, and resources, opening doors for Summer Search participants and alumni to access meaningful career experiences they might not otherwise have.

Reporting to the Career Program Director, the Workforce Manager will be part of a newly formed five-person careers team dedicated to equity and youth mentorship and will collaborate closely with colleagues across our National team and five regional sites (Bay Area, New York City, Seattle, Boston, and Philadelphia). Whether it be entering a specific industry or exploring different professional paths, this role will play a vital part in helping our participants move closer to their career aspirations.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Workforce Manager will help continuously shape and implement a new approach to career programming at Summer Search. The Workforce Manager will take a strategic, data-informed, and youth-centered approach to increasing participant completion of CROs and building sustainable, impactful career programming. Specifically, the Workforce Manager will perform the following duties:

    Partnership Management

    • Manage communication and coordination with workforce and career service partners related to any participant-facing work.
    • Support primary Relationship Managers on partnership management related to renewals, reporting, solicitation, and evaluation
    • Vet and promote high-quality workforce opportunities and potential partners that align with participant interests and program goals.
    • Monitor and manage regional awareness and use of connections to relevant partners, events, and job opportunities.

    Program Management

    • Offer 1:1 application guidance to participants for internal or external opportunities.
    • Develop and monitor quality standards for career related program expectations for high school and transition (first year after HS graduation) students
    • Develop and implement outreach strategies for CRO recruitment, including warm lead cultivation and targeted campaigns.
    • Serve as liaison between applicants and partners throughout the application, acceptance, and completion of the CRO.
    • Organize volunteer engagement with support for CROs, such as mock interviews.
    • Promote participant utilization of resources and opportunities through online community platform CONNECT and direct network referrals.

    Data Collection and Management

    • Track CONNECT engagement, employment, and CRO participation and integrate data analysis to improve programming outcomes.
    • Oversee LinkedIn/CONNECT community engagement and maintain up-to-date employment and internship postings.
    • Collaborate on data reporting for internal and external stakeholders to highlight workforce impact and outcomes.

    WHO YOU ARE

The Workforce Manager position calls for a motivated and strategic leader who can inform and implement organization-wide processes to increase workforce outcomes and who is passionate about working directly with participants to reach their career goals. Specifically, this hire will bring:

    • DEPTH MENTORING: You understand and create an environment where all people feel safe enough to explore, discuss, question and reflect on past, current or future experiences in one-on-one or large group discussions.
    • PRACTICAL CONTENT KNOWLEDGE: You have demonstrated experience relevant to the role and prioritize your own continuous learning to remain adept and knowledgeable of current resources and practices in related fields including outreach, recruitment, and workforce development.
    • DATA ANALYSIS: You are committed to using a shared system for acquiring, validating, managing, and analyzing data to contribute to organizational learning, evaluation, and decision-making.
    • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: You take initiative to create systems and structures to achieve goals and objectives. You succeed at managing and prioritizing multiple workstreams and motivating, coordinating, and directing others to stay on track.
    • ADAPTABILITY: You tackle challenges and unfamiliar scenarios head-on with a solutions-oriented, flexible, and curious approach. You are willing to try new things and actively seek to understand multiple perspectives.
    • TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Proficiency in data entry and reporting is required with a preference for familiarity in Salesforce and platforms for text and email campaigns

In addition, all Summer Search staff bring a commitment to our mission of unleashing students’ potential through mentoring and transformative experiences, as well as the ability to thrive in an environment that values excellence, gratitude, well-being, diversity, authenticity, and collaboration.
