    The Lead Organizer is the professional staff leader of our organization and is ultimately responsible for the health and success of Congregations Organized in accomplishing our mission (as stated above) and creating the just society we envision. CONECT is entering its 14th year and has established broad and deep multi-faith, multi-racial, multi-lingual relationships. CONECT has won significant victories in the areas of criminal legal reform, immigrants’ rights, gun violence prevention, and beyond.

    The Lead Organizer reports to the CONECT Strategy Team (Board of Directors) and works with this Team, associate organizers and other staff to develop, manage, and implement all power-building issue campaigns, oversee fundraising efforts, and engage with volunteer leaders on all actions. The Lead Organizer supervises and manages staff– including associate organizers – with human resource support from the Executive Team. The Lead Organizer oversees communications, finance, and operations, with support from the Operations Manager and Bookkeeper, Treasurer and Executive Team. The best organizers bring the distinctive qualities of talent scout, teacher, coach, strategist, researcher, policy-analyst, campaign builder, action driver, evaluator, administrator, listener, agitator, and team builder. They are patient yet persistent, tenacious yet pastoral, reliable and responsive, a curious listener and an inclusive community-builder.

    Desired Experience

    We seeking a Lead Organizer with strong experience in the following areas:

    • Leading broad-based, grassroots organizing efforts, campaigns, or organizations
    • Fundraising & budget management
    • Staff management and supervision
    • Interfaith and intercultural relationships
    • Political strategy and power analysis\
    • Building and maintaining wide range of relationships with individuals and institutions
    • Leadership Skills

    We seek a Lead Organizer who can:

    • Identify, recruit, develop, support and train leaders
    • Supervise, mentor, develop and train associate organizers
    • Hire, supervise, develop, evaluate CONECT staff
    • Support member congregations in their development of internal leaders
    • Lead strategic planning for CONECT
    • Raise funds and oversee grants
    • Execute administrative and business functions
    • Communicate effectively, internally and externally
    • Raise and manage a $500,000 to $600,000 dollar annual budget
    • Ask for professional development and training, and acknowledge the areas of the work where support, assistance, and mentoring are needed

    Broad-based Organizing Skills

    • Build power to take action, gain recognition, make deals, and keep deals with CONECT leaders and for the CONECT organization
    • Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural, multi-racial spaces
    • Employ anti-racism and structural inequality lenses in organizing
    • Use a problem-to-issue cycle of organizing that reinforces our power
    • Employ a relational model internally with leaders and externally with allies
    • Develop and deliver training workshops to effectively nurture leaders and member institutions and extend organizational power
    • Strategize with leaders on key opportunities and actions
    • Understand faith, labor and community institutions
    • Promote healthy member organizations and manage their diverse interests
