    We are currently seeking a highly organized and people-oriented ESL professional to join our small hard working team as our Director of ESL & Volunteer Engagement (DEVE). This position has a high level of interaction with our volunteers and learners, and reports to the Executive Director. The DEVE oversees the One-to-One Tutoring and Beginner English programs and provides ongoing instructional support for the volunteers who deliver our services to area communities. A main responsibility of the DEVE is to screen, and place volunteers in the role most suitable for their skills, interests, and schedules. This is a unique opportunity to join a small nonprofit to make a big difference in our community. This is a full-year position currently on a hybrid work schedule, with opportunities for professional development.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    As part of a team of enthusiastic and supportive professionals, a successful Director of ESL & Volunteer Engagement will:

    1. Build and maintain professional and cordial relationships with all EAL constituents and stakeholders
    2. Manage the recruitment, screening, and placement of new and current volunteers
    3. Work collaboratively with EAL staff to support the optimal placement of new volunteers, and ensure high quality training standards
    4. Manage the One-to-One Tutoring and Beginner English learner programs
    5. Develop assessment tools to measure effectiveness of EAL learner programs
    6. Provide training and ongoing support for Tutors and Beginner English teachers
    7. Develop and update ESL curriculum for current and new programs
    8. Facilitate volunteer orientations and training workshops
    9. Oversee the planning and execution of EAL’s annual volunteer conference
    10. Plan and organize two annual volunteer appreciation events
    11. Support organizational goals under the guidance of Executive Director

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. A passion for the mission of English At Large
    2. Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s preferred but not required
    3. At least 2 years of experience working in ESOL education with a Masters or 4 years of experience without a degree
    4. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an office environment, non-profit setting, or educational institution
    5. Experience with onboarding and supervising volunteers
    6. Proven track record in adult education and ESOL curriculum development, design, and implementation
    7. Experience in developing program evaluation tools
    8. Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus)
    9. Access to a car and a valid driver’s license
    10. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for volunteer events or trainings (4-8x/year)
    11. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and interviewing skills
    12. Excellent judgment, time management, and organizational skills
    13. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES

    • Experience working with diverse populations
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and support organizational success as part of the team
    • Appreciation for volunteers and experience with managing and training volunteers
    • Knowledge of best practices in adult education and curriculum development
    • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese, a plus

    This is a 40 hour per week position, paid time off, with a salary range of $52,000 - $62,000 .
