    Location: 115 E 13th Street, New York, NY 10003

    What You'll Do

    As Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), you will provide overall leadership and direction of key administrative functions including: Human Resources (HR); Information Technology (IT); real estate; and general administrative services for the central HELP USA office. This is an executive team position within the organization.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Oversee and provide guidance to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Vice President for IT, Vice President for Purchasing, and central office administrative support staff, in support of the organization's mission and goals.
    • Foster collaboration and communication among department heads and with key other departments (Program Operations, Finance, Program Development, Communications, and Legal Affairs) to promote a cohesive and integrated organizational approach.
    • Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, and to address emergent issues and make informed decisions in the best interest of the organization.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
    • Identify opportunities for operational improvement and efficiency across departments and implement best practices and standards to optimize internal processes and workflows.
    • Work with department heads to develop and manage budgets, ensuring responsible resource allocation; monitor financial performance; and identify opportunities for cost savings and improving efficiency and effectiveness of administrative operations.
    • Ensure clear operating policies for all internal administrative functions and maintain a central repository for all organization standard operating procedures.

    You're a great fit for this role if you have:

    • Ten years of progressive management experience in senior leadership roles, overseeing various administrative departments and/or functional areas.
    • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Able to build strong collaborative relationships with other executive team members and mid- and senior-level managers.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; attention to detail; initiative and follow-through; commitment to deadlines; adaptability; and leadership under pressure.
    • Demonstrated experience in driving operational efficiency and process improvement, including cross-department workflows, and real estate planning and transaction execution.
    • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously and change priorities as needed based on the needs of the organization, programs, and/or external stakeholders.
    • Experience as a “change agent” within an organization, in strengthening internal functions and infrastructure in support of the organization's mission, programs, and financial performance.
    • Experience working in a diverse organization, managing diverse teams, and serving diverse communities.
    • A master’s degree in management or a related field is preferred but not required.
    • Experience with publicly-funded cost-reimbursement contracts and grants strongly preferred; and experience with human service programs, especially for people experiencing homelessness, is highly desirable.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position supervises multiple department heads and additional central office support staff.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. This is primarily an “on-site” position, with remote working at a non-HELP USA location generally limited to 1-2 days per week.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is an executive full-time position, typically with a Monday through Friday workweek centered on normal business hours, with occasional work to be completed outside of this schedule.

    Travel

    Work requires some local travel and may require occasional overnight travel.
