    Position Overview

    Team Democracy is seeking a mission-aligned, versatile Communications Manager to lead and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that elevates our visibility, sharpens our public voice, and engages key stakeholders.

    The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic brand and communication initiatives to increase visibility, drive engagement, and strengthen national support for Team Democracy. This role focuses on strategy ownership, content leadership, and brand consistency across all three Team Democracy initiatives.

    This is a remote position with flexible hours, up to 20 hours per week. The hourly rate is $30–$40, commensurate with experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategy & Leadership

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals
    • Serve as a communications advisor to the COO and senior leadership
    • Ensure brand consistency, narrative cohesion, and tone alignment across all Team Democracy initiatives
    • Advise program teams on audience targeting and message refinement

    Content Creation & Storytelling

    • Create compelling written and visual content for newsletters, blogs, donor outreach, website, and social media
    • Elevate the stories of program participants to inspire support and awareness
    • Use copywriting and storytelling skills and data to develop impact reports to share with nonprofit and corporate partners
    • Partner with the Director of Development to develop and amplify compelling fundraising appeals that resonate with supporters and inspire giving
    • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure consistent messaging across channels
    • Draft content for reports, press releases, and internal communications
    • Collaborate with staff and partners to develop multimedia and campaign assets

    Media Relations & Public Engagement

    • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers
    • Identify and leverage media trends for proactive and reactive storytelling opportunities
    • Draft and pitch press materials and op-eds
    • Prepare spokespeople for media engagements and interviews

    Digital Strategy & Campaigns

    • Manage and grow Team Democracy’s presence across digital platforms
    • Develop and implement data-informed campaigns to expand engagement and reach
    • Monitor analytics and adjust strategies to improve performance

    Internal Communication

    • Facilitate clear, consistent communication among internal teams and external partners
    • Ensure organizational alignment around messaging and mission
    • Create internal communications toolkits and staff updates as needed

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in communications and/or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
    • Experience developing fundraising appeals or donor-facing content in collaboration with development teams
    • Experience creating email marketing campaigns using platforms such as Mailchimp
    • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills with the ability to convey complex information through impactful copy in both short-form and long-form formats
    • Expert at proofreading, tracking revisions, and maintaining brand consistency
    • Strong communicator with excellent written, presentation, verbal, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining quality and accuracy
    • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment—able to initiate ideas and open to constructive input
    • Proven results in implementing strategic marketing and communications plans, including managing social media platforms and analytics tools
    • Strong working proficiency with Monday.com and Canva
