Blessings in a Backpack (Blessings) mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. Each week of the school year, Blessings and its network of volunteers and partners sends a bag of nutritious food home with children who, during the week, are served by the federal free and reduced-price meal programs.

In the 2023–2024 school year alone, Blessings provided over 3.3 million hunger-free weekends to children across the country. We are a fast-growing, mission-driven nonprofit with a collaborative culture and a deep commitment to ending childhood hunger.

    Position Summary

The Operations Associate plays a critical role in supporting the program operations team by managing and maintaining high-quality, accurate data in our platforms, primarily Monday.com and Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge/NXT)—while also supporting organizational operations excellence and volunteer engagement efforts.

Approximately 15% of this role’s time is dedicated to shared operational support across the organization, including monitoring and managing the info@ inbox, the 1-800 number, and providing light project coordination and operational support for the CEO, Chief of Staff, and HR—without direct administrative or calendar duties.

This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, technology-savvy, and passionate about supporting community-based efforts to fight childhood hunger.

    Key Responsibilities

    Database Management & Integrity

    • Maintain data integrity across Monday.com and Raiser’s Edge/NXT through regular audits, clean-up, and data entry related to volunteers, schools, and program partners.
    • Ensure alignment and accuracy between multiple platforms and systems.
    • Work with the VP of Program Operations to develop and enforce best practices and data protocols.

    Volunteer Engagement & Support

    • Track volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement activities; generate monthly reports on engagement and retention.
    • Prepare mailing lists and coordinate distribution of e-newsletters, impact reports, and recognition mailings.
    • Respond promptly and professionally to volunteer inquiries via website, phone, and email.
    • Coordinate with program managers to support volunteer communications and logistics.

    Project Coordination & Resource Development

    • Assist with special projects and seasonal campaigns (e.g., holiday card drives, volunteer appreciation).
    • Collaborate with the marketing coordinator and program team to maintain and update the Program Coordinator (PC) Toolkit with accurate, user-friendly resources.
    • Support survey and evaluation initiatives to assess volunteer satisfaction and engagement.

    Organizational Support & Coordination (15%)

    • Serve as the first point of contact for general organizational inquiries, managing incoming messages and calls with professionalism and efficiency. This includes monitoring and responding to shared communication channels, as well as handling incoming mail and providing general office support as needed.
    • Provide essential coordination and operational support for internal projects across leadership.
    • Work proactively to streamline workflows and enhance the efficient allocation of resources throughout the organization.

    Basic Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational, time management skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience with databases (e.g., Blackbaud, Salesforce, Monday.com) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • High attention to detail and accuracy, especially with sensitive data, along with a commitment to confidentiality and data security.
    • Passion for the mission of Blessings in a Backpack and dedication to supporting food-insecure children.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge/NXT or Monday.com
    • Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit environment
    • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends
    • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

    Key Competencies

    • Resourceful, solution-oriented, and tech-savvy with a quick aptitude for learning new systems
    • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
    • Diplomatic, professional communicator with a positive attitude
