    Description

    The Manager, Career and Leadership Development is a key member of the Scholar & Alumni Success Team. Your role will be to work collaboratively to develop further and implement A Better Chance’s career navigation and leadership positioning programs for Scholars and Alumni. You will work frequently with A Better Chance corporate partners, support year-round Scholar enrichment, plan and facilitate group and individual workshops, and orchestrate large-scale events (virtual, hybrid, and in-person) for A Better Chance Scholars and Alumni and families.

    The position will require you to be flexible with hours and do what is necessary for the general function of the Programs Department. Evening and weekend work is required. The position is a full-time, in-office position and based in New York, NY. Travel to A Better Chance’s core markets is required.

    QUALITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

    Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Experience working with youth; counseling experience; facilitation experience; and 3 – 5 years previous work experience desired
    • Strong knowledge of internship, career readiness, and leadership development programming for middle school, high school, and/or college students
    • Experience working with middle-school, high-school, and/or college-aged students in group, and individual settings
    • Experience managing direct reports
    • Demonstrated ability to approach program management with curiosity and flexibility
    • Excellent demonstrated skills in writing, communication, presentation, and time-management
    • Ability to relate to, and engage with middle-school, high-school students, college-aged students, and families from diverse backgrounds
    • Knowledge of independent schools is a plus
    • Ability to work efficiently independently and within a team
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a hybrid office-centered work environment
    • Excited to travel throughout the year (current driver’s license strongly preferred)
    • Computer skills (Microsoft suite, Google suite, internet research, etc.)
    • Demonstrated belief in the A Better Chance mission
    • Bilingual a plus

    PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

    • Manage all data tracking related to Scholar and College-age Alumni programmatic engagement
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with a portfolio of highly engaged Scholars and College-age Alumni to ensure they have access to the resources they need and to cement loyalty to the A Better Chance brand
    • Co-manage the planning and execution of annual events such as Virtual College Fair (September), Summer Opportunities Fair (December), & Career Week (March)
    • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate year-round workshops for all student groups focused on: career exploration, preparation, and navigation; entrepreneurship & financial literacy; and leadership development
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of new initiatives aimed at building Scholar and College-age Alumni leadership capacity
    • Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts, corporate partners and vendors to provide best in class content, tools and service for scholars and their families

    PROGRAM DEPARTMENT SUPPORT

    • Participate in reading and evaluating A Better Chance applications
    • Participate in Member School Fair days as needed
    • Assist in selection of A Better Chance pre-college program partner participants
    • Assist in the selection of A Better Chance scholarship award winners
    • Periodic travel to support the Programs Department generally
    • Support general Programs Department events as needed
    • Other duties as assigned
