    Description

    About Supply Trace

Do you ever think about what goes into making the products you use every day? The lithium in your phone battery was likely mined by workers in remote locations. Your new t-shirt passed through countless hands - from cotton farmers to factory workers to shipping crews. And those workers are increasingly at risk.

As global supply chains become more complex and demand for critical minerals skyrockets, workers face growing threats from forced labor, environmental hazards, and exploitative conditions. Climate change is making these problems worse, pushing mining operations into more dangerous areas and putting agricultural workers at greater risk.

Supply Trace is a non-profit building an open-access platform to create transparency where it's needed most. While for-profit companies serve enterprise brands with expensive, proprietary compliance tools, we're building technology that's freely accessible to organizations of all sizes - from governments needing compliance solutions to grassroots NGOs to small suppliers who can't afford enterprise solutions.

Our open-access approach means the communities and organizations closest to these problems can actually use our tools. This isn't about helping big companies check regulatory boxes - it's about democratizing supply chain transparency so we can protect the workers who make everything we use.

    The Role

We need someone to own our frontend - not just write code but think strategically about how we build user experiences that make complex supply chain data accessible and actionable.

You'll be working directly with our CTO to establish frontend best practices, lead implementation of our React/Next.js stack, and collaborate with external designers and contractors. This isn't a "just follow specs" role - we need someone who can contribute to product decisions and help shape our technical roadmap.

As we grow, there's a clear path to either engineering management or senior technical leadership. We're looking for someone who wants to grow with us.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Lead frontend architecture and implementation using React/Next.js for an open-access platform
    • Establish and maintain frontend development best practices and processes
    • Design user experiences that work for diverse users - from NGOs to small suppliers to enterprise brands
    • Work closely with external designers and contractors to deliver accessible, inclusive interfaces
    • Collaborate with our Python/FastAPI backend team (some backend work expected)
    • Contribute to product roadmap and technical strategy discussions
    • Help build and eventually lead a growing frontend team

    What we're looking for

    Experience:

    • 7-8 years of frontend development experience, primarily JavaScript/CSS
    • Strong React and Next.js experience
    • Some backend experience (Ruby, Python, or similar - we can teach you FastAPI)
    • Experience working with designers and translating designs into production code
    • Track record at early to medium-stage startups

    Skills:

    • Design sensibility - you care about user experience and visual details
    • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal oversight
    • Interest in contributing to technical strategy, not just implementation
    • Experience with modern frontend tooling and best practices

    Mindset:

    • You believe in open-access technology and democratizing tools that can create change
    • You want to work on technology that has real impact on workers' lives and environmental protection
    • You believe in our mission and are comfortable with a tech startup’s pace
    • You're interested in building inclusive technology that serves diverse global communities
    • You want to help build something meaningful that addresses global challenges

    Tech Stack

Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, modern CSS Backend: Python, FastAPI, GCP Other: Docker, Terraform, standard startup tooling

    What we offer

    • Remote-first with optional collaboration opportunities
    • Direct access to leadership and real input on product direction
    • Opportunity to build technology that protects workers and addresses global challenges
    • Clear path to leadership roles as our mission expands
    • Position is initially contract-based offering $12k-$15k per month depending on experience

This role is perfect for a senior frontend engineer who wants their technical skills to have real-world impact and believes in open-access technology. If you've been looking for work that matters - building freely accessible tools that can help prevent forced labor, protect workers from environmental hazards, and democratize supply chain transparency - let's talk.

Supply Trace is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
