    About the position:

    The Senior Associate of Humanitarian Operations is vital to strengthening Americares emergency response capacity. This role supports headquarters and global deployment readiness, coordinates logistics, and engages with supply chain partners, including managing hand-carry missions and EMT equipment to ensure deployment readiness. The goal is to keep our humanitarian programs agile and responsive, enabling faster and more effective delivery of health-focused aid during crises.

    Key Outcomes:

    In the first 90 days, the Senior Associate will:

      Learn and live the Americares values.

        Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings.

          Gain a clear understanding of Americares’ Humanitarian Programs and Operations structure, with a focus on the Readiness and Response Unit’s role within the broader humanitarian strategy.

            Become familiar with key systems and platforms used in daily operations, including SharePoint, ERPX, WASP, HELM, and Salesforce, and begin applying them to support inventory management, procurement tracking, and deployment readiness.

              Complete a comprehensive audit of hand-carry kits and EMT equipment and support the implementation of readiness checklists to ensure assets are deployment-ready.

                Learn the core components of the WHO EMT Type 1 Mobile framework and how it informs Americares’ medical response planning and operations.

                  Begin supporting procurement and logistical processes for humanitarian responses, including reviewing requests, initiating purchase workflows, and tracking compliance with donor and internal requirements.

                  In the first 6 months, the Senior Associate will:

                    Lead the maintenance, tracking, and replenishment of hand-carry and EMT deployment kits, ensuring alignment with WHO EMT and internal readiness standards.

                      Actively coordinate logistics and procurement for at least one field simulation or actual response, demonstrating fluency in internal systems (WASP, COMPLX).

                        Support the refinement and implementation of logistics SOPs and deployment checklists for rapid mobilization.

                          Manage procurement workflows for key humanitarian items, ensuring vendor compliance with internal policies and donor requirements.

                            Strengthen cross-functional collaboration with programs, finance, and supply chain teams to ensure efficient planning and resource mobilization.

                              Begin contributing to regional readiness or localization efforts by supporting assessments, coordination, or knowledge-sharing with field teams and partners.

                              In the first year, the Senior Associate will:

                                Serve as a lead logistics coordinator for multiple emergency mobilizations, ensuring seamless execution of equipment deployment, vendor engagement, and operational support to the field.

                                  Maintain and enhance logistics systems and reporting tools, supporting inventory audits and producing actionable data for internal planning and donor reporting.

                                    Own the operational readiness of EMT assets and contribute to the implementation of WHO EMT strategies, including support for simulations, verification processes, or deployment planning.

                                      Lead procurement planning for humanitarian operations, establishing vendor relationships, ensuring compliance, and contributing to cost-effective sourcing strategies.

                                        Collaborate with global operations and field teams to implement regional preparedness activities, such as mapping prepositioned stock or supporting local partner capacity assessments.

                                          Participate in after-action reviews and lessons-learned processes to inform continuous improvement in operational readiness and response coordination.

                                          Duties and Responsibilities:

                                                Support emergency response mobilization by coordinating logistical and operational tasks during acute emergencies, including the deployment of hand-carry kits, EMT equipment, and essential supplies to affected areas.

                                                  Maintain deployment readiness by overseeing the inventory, maintenance, and replenishment of emergency response assets.

                                                    Coordinate procurement and supply chain activities by supporting the sourcing and procurement of goods and services for humanitarian responses.

                                                      Manage and optimize logistics systems, such as WASP, ERPx, HELM, Salesforce and SharePoint.

                                                        Contribute to strategic readiness planning by participating in development and refinement of emergency readiness tools, SOPs, and deployment processes.

                                                          Engage with cross-functional teams and partners, including programs, finance, supply chain, and country offices.

                                                            Support WHO EMT strategy implementation by assisting in operationalizing the Type 1 Mobile strategy through readiness activities, simulation exercises and documentation.

                                                              Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

                                                              Degrees and/or experience required for the role:

                                                                Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, public health, international relations, emergency management, or related.

                                                                  1-3 years of relevant experience.

                                                                  These competencies are required for the role:

                                                                    Demonstrated ability to independently manage operational tasks, maintain deployment readiness, and follow through on logistics and procurement responsibilities.

                                                                      Demonstrated ability to assess evolving logistical or supply chain challenges.

                                                                        Excellent written and verbal communication with internal teams, vendors, partners.

                                                                          Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines during rapid response operations.

                                                                            Demonstrated global competency and ability to work effectively in cultures, different experiences and perspectives, and time zones.

                                                                              Excellent attention to detail.

                                                                                Ability to lift and handle up to 50 pounds in a warehouse environment.

                                                                                US work authorization and ability to travel internationally approximately 10% of the time is required for this role.

                                                                                These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:

                                                                                  Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.

                                                                                    Professional certifications such as CILT, HLCP, and WHO EMT Logistics training or completion of FEMA ISC courses (100, 200, 700, 800).
